Ordinarily, I'm a purist when it comes to the National Anthem, but this one stirred my soul. In the wake of all the recent bashing of the National Anthem, this band, Madison Rising, decided to respond. The result is this.

The lead singer is a veteran, and that just makes this so much better.

What ever speaks the BEST about Old Glory to those who love her, is really fine with me... for it may reach those who are "different" from me.... and that is GOOD! :)

    MY NAME IS OLD GLORY.....

I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I stand side by side with the Maple Leaf on the worlds longest undefended border.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
    Look up and see me.

I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
    I stand for freedom.
    I am confident.
    I am arrogant.
    I am proud.

When I am flown with my fellow banners,
my head is a little higher,
    my colors a little truer.

    I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
    I am honored - I am saluted.
    I am loved - I am revered.
I am respected -- and I am feared.

I have fought in every battle of every war for more then 200 years. I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appomattox. I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy, Guam, Okinawa, Korea and KheSan, Saigon Vietnam.
    Know me,
    I was there.

I led my troops, I was dirty, battle worn and tired,
but my soldiers cheered me, And I was proud.
I have been burned, torn and tramp...

I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free. It does not hurt,
    for I am invincible.

I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of my country. And when it's by those whom I've served in battle -- it hurts.
But I shall overcome -- for I am strong.

I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon.
I have borne silent witness to all
    of America's finest hours.

But my finest hours are yet to come.
When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield,
When I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldiers,
Or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,
    I am proud.

    MY NAME IS OLD GLORY

Dear God - Long may I wave.

As difficult to perform as it is difficult to be vigilant for our liberties. The way it was meant to be.

I notice a lot of folks arguing over the content of the our national anthem, and apparently quit a few dislike the words intently.

That doesn't suprise me much, as there have always been a few who disagreed with the Foundation from the begining. And they weren't worried about there being slavery, or driving Indians off the land, God knows and history shows that more than a few Loyalist owned slaves or fought Indian Tribes for their land.

They were just upset that there was no longer a Crown to tell everyone what they should be happy with. Their argument isn't with the "imoralities" of the Founding of the US, but with the idea of individuals having any kind of liberty or rights defined by something other than Government.

It's so wonderful to see a group of young proud Americans show their admiration and respect for our nation and for our flag.
Thanks Madison Rising for this rocking version of our national anthem, I wish I saw it yesterday, to download and to add to my playlist of patriotic songs for our Independence day party. I'll buy it for this weekends party :)

wrong part jerk face...next time don't try to post HALF a song NOT with a singer of Irish music around..

    A Soldier's Song

    Soldiers are we,
whose lives are pledged to Ireland
some have come from a land beyond the wave,
    Sworn to be free,
    no more our ancient sireland
    Shall shelter the despot or the slave;
tonight we man the Bearna Baoghal
    In Erin's cause.
    , come woe or weal;
'Mid cannon's roar and rifle's peal
    We'll chant a soldier's song.

NOW microbrain we have the word SLAVE mentioned...so let's go back to original STUPID statement

"It is also, as far as i know, the only National anthem in the developed industrialized western first-world to mention slavery."

OH and one more thing the Bombs referred to by Key were fired from CANNONS...or are you so stupid you think the British were throwing them?

so mid cannon's roar covers it....so , moron...play the clintonian hairsplits all you want

It's funny you mention slavery, as many of our troops and civilians were captured and made slaves. Yet America abolished slavery while other countries did not, continuing the practice until 1913 and further like Somalia, who still condones slavery.
