Good Neighbors an ironic movie title for for this film
Good Neighbors is an indie thriller whose title might cause one to look at their neighbors with a jaundiced eye. There is a rash of rapes and murders going on in the Notre Dame neighborhood in Montreal, which becomes a point of fixation for a young woman, Louise, who works in a Chinese restaurant in that area. Each day she scours the newspapers to see if there have been any new victims. The topic takes on a much more personal meaning when one of her coworkers becomes a victim.
When the cops show up at the restaurant, Louise peppers them with questions, such as, “does he rape the victims before or after he kills them?” Louise lives in an apartment building where she has a loud and obnoxious neighbor who hates the cats that belong to her. Louise also has a handicapped neighbor, Spencer, who lost the use of his legs in an automobile accident that killed his wife. And a late addition to the mix is Vince, a very talkative young man, who has just moved into the apartment building.
There appears to be something that doesn’t quite seem right about each of these neighbors, which is what adds to the ironic humor of the movie’s title.
