-Sodom and Gomorrah -Flooding the Earth -Killing of Egyptian first-born sons -Sending bears to dismember children for teasing a prophet -Sending a plague that kills 14,000 Israelites because they complained that God was killing too many people
Category error. This is a logical error! Its absurd to think that God is in some way held by the same standards as we are! He is greater than and outside of the laws he created for this world! He gives life and is justified to take it from those who work against him! Do you really think that YOU are the JUDGE of the one who created everything?
So it's cool for him to commit genocide and mutilate children, but it's a sin when a human does it because God supposedly created everything? Wouldn't that make God an arrogant, hypocritical monster?
Are you suggesting you have no option? It seems to me, you have been given an option. The correct choice has even been made incredibly clear for you. Yet, some people choose to continue to deny reality simply because they don't like the option. That doesn't mean, you weren't allowed to choose. It means you chose wrong and tried to fight an unbeatable opponent. The choices won't change, god won't change! Accept it, or live life pretending the choice wasn't given and the answer wasn't obvious!
I could of been given other choices like thor, zeus, cthulhu, and countless other gods you know. but wasn't. and I deny reality? i'm not the type of person to say everything happened because a god did it. and god won't change...
You could have been given other choices? You are given other choices. You can choose to follow your foot if you want. The choice is yours. It's interesting that you choose to deny God's power and authority because you disagree with reality that God is the ONLY TRUE choice and feel you have no other options. Did you act this way with your parents as well? You have only 1 true Mom and 1 true Dad. You can choose to lie to yourself and tell yourself George Clooney is your Dad, but that would not be reality and it doesn't change the truth of who your Dad really is. The same goes for God. Tell yourself whatever lie you choose, but the reality is that God remains true!
" i'm not the type of person to say everything happened because a god did it. and god won't change... " ---So, you want God to change and accept the things in your life that YOU refuse to change? Fortunately for the rest of us, God remains consistent and just. To understand the consequences of your desire for God to change would be no God at all. But, thats not reality. Therefore, you choose to deny reality!
The go to answer when you have nothing left in defense. If you knew what was good for you, you would work on making it make sense. Instead you choose ignorance.
yeah, reading it again, still makes no sense. say, have you ever had the idea in mind that maybe you could of been lied to by the people that told you everything in the bible is fact?
Sure I did. You know what I did then? Instead of relying on my misunderstanding, I decided I better find out for myself. Ever since (20+ yrs) I have found that not only were those people NOT lying to me, they were saving me! Anyone who has a real desire for truth doesn't stop until it's proven to them. Though I haven't stopped learning more truths, I've stopped searching for it. The Bible is fact. Not in the sense that everything is literal but in the sense that it is all true. In other words, God reveals truth to us through parables. These parables have a lesson, a truth to be learned. Charles Spurgeon was once asked, "How do you defend the Bible?" "Very easy" he responded. "The same way I defend a lion. I simply let it out of its cage."
This is a simple translation issue. Since the ancient Hebrew word ('owph) apparently included bats, "birds" is not really an accurate translation. The ESV gives "things that fly" as a suggested alternate translation. Our current day vernacular doesn't make what was accurately written in Hebrew, false. You're gonna have to think, just a little farther out of your tiny little box (mine's tiny also) for better understanding. In other words, we tend to think that everything today, is how it's always been. This is obviously not true. The key to understanding this is first realizing that. Even if this were a legitimate error (which it's not), would it be Gods error or did man categorize what God made incorrectly (for arguments sake). I'm not suggesting this is the case, but keep in mind, God created the bats and everything else. Who are we to determine that God is wrong about what he created. Again, I'm not suggesting bats are birds. I'm simply suggesting that we remember our place in the big picture!
or
You believe in God, but Satan has convinced you to burn in Hell with him!
