I know my password, I use it all the time. But I check my email from numerous sources, my computer, my I-pod, my tablet, my brothers computer, etc. I tried to check on Friday, and it locked me out because of suspicious activity. I went through the whole recovery process, filled in my password, gave them a list of my most frequently used contacts, gave them a list of all my tabs, all the stuff that would prove the account is mine. Today I get an email on my alternative account saying that they did not have enough information to allow me access to my account, but they are willing to reactivate my account if I provide the necessary information, along with a "small payment". Oh, well. Nothing on that account was that important...

Your account may have been compromised if you’ve experienced any of the following issues:
Your contacts have received suspicious messages from your address
Contacts and/or mail have gone missing, and you’ve already tried the tips on our missing messages troubleshooter, such as searching your mail and checking your settings
You’ve received a warning about suspicious activity from your Last account activity
I can still sign in to my account
I can’t sign in to my account
Please note that we aren't able to provide you with information about attempted logins to your account including, but not limited to, the IP address1 from which the attempted login was made, and the time and date attempted logins occurred.
You may have been given a diversion.
I no longer trust Google. They are tracking everything you do online now and will give it to the government without any resistance.
In any event, could be a scam nor not, depends on if the actual email was from Google or not.
Take care,
