Get Your Free Obama Phone Here...

THIS IS ABSOULTELY UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you believe this?

THIS IS ABSURD!!! I don't recall which amendment says everyone has the right to bear cell phones.

A friend sent this to me. It is going to make you mad as hell when you look at the web site.

I had a former employee call me earlier today inquiring about a job, and at the end of the conversation he gave me his phone number. I asked the former employee if this was a new type of cell number and he told me yes this was his 'Obama phone'.

I asked him what an 'Obama phone' was and he went on to say that welfare recipients are now eligible to receive (1) a FREE new phone and (2) approx 70 minutes of FREE minutes every month.

I was a little skeptical because it sounded absurd! So I Googled it and low and behold he was telling the truth.

TAXPAYER MONEY IS BEING REDISTRIBUTED TO WELFARE RECIPIENTS FOR FREE CELL PHONES. This program was started earlier this year.

not everyone has the money for a phone, and some with children in the family, whos to say the children are in an emergency, they wont have the option to dial 911.So yall people are telling me, just because someone is poor, and doesnt have money, their family doesnt deserve to have a phone. And 70 minutes is just for important/emergency uses only...Lets be reasonable here people, 70 minutes is really nothing.Who are you to judge other people?!?

so what !!! it's no worse than tax payers pays for the goverment to go out and use tax payers money for call girls or their on pleasure, are is it the fact a black man felt the need to help out the poor and needy.maybe he thought this was a good idea to help someone without a phone that applied for a job to be contacted with no excuses. not everbody on welfare wants to be there.

some people {not just welfare rats} can't afford a phone for times of need. some have health troubles that prevent them from working and have to depend on SSI; wich is only $674.00 a month. [...]

This really does have nothing to do with Obama. however, it may not be our tax dollars paying for this, but it is a rip off for those people paying their regular bills, phone, cell, etc. If you look on all your telecommunication bills there is a charge called a USF charge (Universal Service Fund). The Federal Communications Commision created a group called the Universal Service Administrative Company which is a not for profit, independent group that funnels that collects the USF fee that us hard working americans pay so that lazy bums who don't work can walk around with new phones and free minutes. Now if you read the history the program was set up so that rural areas and low income areas could get affordable communications in the area they lived. I see this as a liberal way of spreading the wealth. This was never intended to help people get free phones, minutes, etc, it was intended to make communications more affordable in harder to reach areas as it is more expensive to do so in those areas, and make it cheapere so the poor can afford to pay for their own service. I am so tired of working so hard so that some lazy bumb can get for free what I pay for and so many other hard working americans pay for.

    LIFELINE/SAFELINK FACT SHEET
There is no "Obama phone" or other newly created federal program to provide free cell phones. As you may know, this is a myth that is now circulating on the Web via email and blog sites. It has been thoroughly debunked by independent groups. (See for example: FactCheck.org at http://www.factcheck.org/2009... which notes: "Low-income households have been eligible for discounted telephone service for more than a decade. But the program is funded by telecom companies, not by taxes, and the president has nothing to do with it."
The federal "Lifeline" program was created during the Reagan Administration. Lifeline is a federal program created by the Reagan era Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in 1984. The program was enhanced under Telecommunications Act of 1996, which was supported on a broadly bipartisan basis in Congress. The FCC’s Low Income Program of the Universal Service Fund, which is administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC), is designed to ensure that quality telecommunications services are available to low-income customers at just, reasonable, and affordable rates. Lifeline support reduces eligible low-income consumers' monthly charges for basic telephone service.

Thanks to SafeLink, Lifeline support is now available for wireless phones. Traditionally, the Lifeline program was only available as a discount on a consumer’s landline telephone bill. SafeLink Wireless was created by TracFone Wireless, Inc. when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently approved the company to offer Lifeline -- a public assistance program that ensures telephone service is available and affordable for low-income subscribers. SafeLink Wireless applies the Universal Service Fund subsidy to an allotment of free airtime minutes and TracFone provides the wireless handset at the company’s expense. Instead of receiving a subsidized monthly telephone bill for Lifeline service, SafeLink converts the total amount of discounted service into minutes each month for one year. The cell phone offers in-demand features: voicemail, text, three-way calling, call waiting, caller ID and access to 911.
SafeLink phones are not paid for by taxpayers or the federal government. TracFone Wireless pays for the phones and also the cost of promoting its SafeLink program to make sure that eligible consumers know about the program.
    SafeLink Wireless is making the vision of universal access to telecommunications services for all Americans a reality. As of October 2009, SafeLink has over 2 million customers and is available in 31 states - Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Today, there are over 1,700 companies in the United States currently providing discounted telephone service. But, thanks to its extensive outreach promoting SafeLink, TracFone Wireless is one of the largest providers of Lifeline services in the United States, second only to AT&T.;
Only certain Americans are eligible for SafeLink. Eligibility guidelines vary by state but in general individuals qualify if they participate in a public assistance program such as Food Stamps, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), National Free School Lunch, Federal Housing/Section 8 Assistance, or if they do not receive any of these public assistance programs, they may also qualify based on total household gross monthly income. Customers can learn more or apply by calling 1-800-SAFELINK or visiting www.SafeLink.com

The program has expanded to Virgin Mobile and I am not happy. Welfare recipients and other "poor" people are getting a free phone and 200 minutes.

    This is crazy.

I pay for my phone and these bums and losers get free phones and minutes? This is insane. What's next, cars?

You shouldn't look down on people like that its rude. I grew up poor therefore I realize this isn't crazy. If you don't have so much as a phone to call 911 then what? What if you were in their position. You shouldn't Judge people. Its not like Obama came up with this idea... Phone companies and stuff are behind it.
