hey i would say nice cuz' over here in Mexico we have Rosca de Reyes... some long bread just like fruit cake.. cut it and if you get a mini baby toy you get to make a party... darn i ate it all, ate it all!! :S.. fat

My family has been making fruitcake ever since I was a kid. It is not your typical fruitcake. This fruitcake is not baked and is made out of graham crackers, prunes, raisons, apricots and a bunch of other fruit. It is mixed together with a bit of brandy to ease the mixing and then it is aged for three weeks. The final product is delicious.

When it's *really* fresh, and taken in small quantities with something like coffee or sour mash whiskey, it is quite nice.

For as long as I can remember fruit cake baked by my mother was the penultimate dessert for Christmas dinner. Unabashedly I will confess that I love fruit cake. I got some fruit cake as a gift this year! God is in his heaven and all is right with the world!

I meant "Full of Flavor". The only good fruitcake I've had are the ones that my friend and I make every holiday season; it smells and tastes quite delicious.

When it's done right. Lots of butter, lots of nuts, soaked in brandy & rum and NO CITRON! People who hate fruitcake have usually had it with too much citron. Leave out the citron, or use it very sparingly, and use apricots, pineapple, dates, raisins and cherries and it's a whole other thing.

That's not fake, it's candied cherries, pineapple, and citron. They boil them in a sugar syrup.

Yes. Made by the Trappists at Gethsemani Abbey in New Haven, KY. They also make a fine fudge; Thomas Merton resided there.

Just keep in mind that Claxton uses imitation rum flavoring. Without the alcohol, fruit cakes lose their legendary shelf life. Claxton themselves state that their fruitcakes only have a shelf life of 4 months, and should be kept refrigerated.

Thanks Sean: But I can no longer enjoy alcohol. I enjoyed several thousand gallons but I had the choise of no Booze or no life. I decides to stick around

Oh no, I wasn't proposing you should eat cake with rum in it, I was just mentioning that the non-alcoholic versions have a shorter shelf life, of which many people are not aware. Food poisoning can be pretty unpleasant.
