The only thing on the link you provided pertaining to Ford was a story saying they deserved a $12 stock price. That article didn't mention owing anything to tax payers. If that isn't the story you are referring me to, please provide a link directly to the story you want me to read.
"Ford Motor owes the government $5.9 billion it borrowed in June 2009, the same month GM filed for bankruptcy. By Sept. 15, Ford needs to start paying that money back. In a government filing, the carmaker said $577 million is due within the next year, and the full amount must be paid off by June 15, 2022."
Just because the last Ford I had I did nothing to it .Drove it for 3 years not one oil change than pulled out of drive way and it just stop. The tranny went out.
Really it depends on the model. I LOVE Jeep Wranglers(owner). For high end SUV, or a truck I'd choose GMC. Though I've had a For Explorer for 9 years that's been wrecked over 7 times, horribly maintained, and flooded. Yet she is still going strong!
Wranglers are wonderful! You can't condemn every model because of the company. That's the equivalent to an Irish man robbing a bank and someone thinking every Irish person is a bank robber/thief.
That's because they almost went under the year before the banks collapsed and the credit dried up. Read "American Icon", it really tells the story of how Ford was 3 months from running out of cash and going under when they decided to mortgage the farm (and even the blue oval trademark) in a last ditch effort to save the company. Luckily it was good timing and in hindsight a good decision, otherwise, Ford wouldn't even have been around to show up to ask for a bailout.

From the second paragraph of the article:

I'll never own a Chrysler ever again. They look great but are terrible cars.
