Hot Sauce/Salsa is the #1 condiment in the USA!
I prefer Salsa/Hot Sauce on nearly every thing I eat!

Most of the time I like a good chunky hot sauce on a lot of things with a few slices of jalapenos.
Once in a while I will use ketchup.

I will use ketchup on a dry roast or steak if it is not juicy enough. :-)
Oh, also on fries sometimes.

Heinz once made a hot ketchup that was real good but quit making it.Today I only use ketchup mixed with horseradish to make a cocktail sauce when I boil shrimp.

Usually I'll want both. I chose ketchup over hot sauce because - for me, I doubt there's a meaningful general rule on this - unnecessary heat can ruin food totally, whereas unnecessary ketchup can be mitigated to a degree.

While I don't mind spicy food, I've never actually added hot sauce to a dish as a condiment. I use ketchup on my burgers and fries. If I want a dish wth some fire, then I use serrano or jalopeno peppers in my recipe. I guess that came from being raised with a brother who won't tolerate hot foods at all, so it just wasn't something we were exposed to very much when we were younger.

Hot sauce for sure, adds flavor to all foods... I import mine from Mexico... More flavor, just the correct amount of pepper spice and not over an amount of vinegar like most...
