I live in Florida and would move to California in a heart beat if I could get my wife to move away from her family. I love California, the weather is perfect and the natural beauty is fantastic. There are so many cool places to go to and things to do. The people are cool too.
Florida is way to hot and humid and unless you live on the beach the natural scenery is flat and ugly. The place is overrun with blue hairs and unless you stay in one of the cities you can hear the dueling banjos in the background. Contrary to what you might hear, it is not cheap to live here and it is getting more expensive all the time.
California. Much better weather. Southern FL is intensely humid. You can't see it on a postcard, but it's brutal. Many residents leave the the State from May through October.
It's "paradise" in the winter. In the summer it's hell.
Not having lived in either place as a resident I would say that maybe California is more diverse geographically, culturally and economically but does have the looming earthquake thing. Florida's limited economy is skewed by tourism and transiency and it does have the looming hurricane thing. I'd say California maybe.
