Equality and/or the Melting Pot

Heather 2010/11/22 04:25:12

I have to write an essay on equality and/or the melting pot and I am completely at a loss. I was originally going to write on inequality and a majority religion in America, but I had too much trouble with a focus and evidence/support. Now I am thinking about changing it to inequality as relating to prison and/or poverty. I am still having trouble finding a thesis, focus, and evidence. Any ideas, opinions, and help you can give on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

America is not a melting pot; it's a buffet. We all exist together, but even in the absence of legal segregation, we segregate ourselves. Christians feel like they're the star-attraction crab legs and non-Christians are the distasteful bin of brussels sprouts that should be gotten rid of. Many times on this site I've seen them swear that the First Amendment does not separate church and state, and recently they've become so bold as to say, "Even if government stays out of religion, we must make sure that religion never stays out of government."

They seriously scare the crap out of me.

I'm not sure I understand the theme, because it sounds awfully vague (maybe that was intentional)but I'll take a stab if it might possibly help you. Perhaps the question is whether newcomers should be forced to assimilate if they want to be functional in a society? I don't know if that helps you or not. :(

Fun
