'Dumb Starbucks Coffee' Opens in Los Angeles: Brilliant or Ridiculous?

We all know that Starbucks coffee shops are a dime a dozen, but a "Dumb Starbucks Coffee" shop? That's brand new, and one of a kind.

"Dumb Starbucks Coffee" opened in Los Feliz, a neighborhood of Los Angeles, over the February 7 weekend. The shop uses the same logo, name, and even drinks as regular Starbucks cafes. However, they put the word "dumb" in front of everythying. A flyer on the shop reads: "Although we are a fully functioning coffee shop, for legal reasons Dumb Starbucks needs to be categorized as a work of parody art. So, in the eyes of the law, our 'coffee shop' is actually an art gallery and the 'coffee' you're buying is considered the art. But that's for our lawyers to worry about."

A coffee shop that's actually parody art? Hmm...okay I'll admit that I'm intrigued.

Sounds like a good business idea considering all the attention it has been getting. However, turns out the coffee is being given out for free. So wait, they're not even making any money? Many speculate that this might be some sort of performance art or prank for a television show.

What do you think? Is this "Dumb Starbuck" brilliant, or flat out ridiculous? Who knows how long the joke will last. If it gets shut down, would it be "good riddance" or should more businesses follow suit? Would you shop at a "Dumb Target" or "Idiotic Costco"?

The only thing dumb about Starbucks is the idiot patrons who pay $5.00 for a 50 cent cup of Joe because the marketing makes them feel intellectual.

No publicity is bad publicity. In our world where everything goes, it's kinda hip...at least for a little while.

They would not be able to use the logo is it wasn't affiliated with Starbucks. Starbucks is making bank off of its haters.

They're not likely to get away with claiming satirical intent in order to use the Starbucks logo. Unless, of course, they actually have a Starbucks Franchise Licence...but ow much would they have to actually PAY Starbucks to get away with something like this?

I think that people who waste what amounts to be big bucks over the coarese of a year on fancy coffee are fools. Starbucks is there to saparate fools from their money. Starbucks is no fool however and it's only a matter of time before they have this "parody" shut down. The name is too similar and they can't use starbucks logo etc. but I like the idea.

The shop has already been shut down by health inspectors: http://www.nydailynews.com/en...

If I lived in the area, I probably would've stopped by to visit, but I doubt I would've waited hours in line for unremarkable coffee.
