Don't blame the Rappers or generalize them all as misogyny, drug dealing, materialism preaching simpletons, because there are SEVERAL rap acts out there that are totally against those things and speak out on it. If anyone is to blame is the mainstream media that insists on pushing that crap to the mainstream and decent artists underground. Like my man Freeman on the HBO series "The Wire" used to say you have to follow the money. The radio or Tv stations don't care, so you have to go to the Sponsors of those programs and say you're paying them to play that filth?Well I think I gonna get a bunch of other concerned parents or true hip hop fans and we're gonna find another product to buy." Do that and the negativity will slowly go back underground.
Amen: more than several, but people focus on the negative as usual. You have new movements in Europe: mostly Britain. The underground is on the rise again although it never left. Here are some good ones:
All forms of music can go too far, but it seems like everyone wants to pick on the rappers. I've heard some way out stuff coming from other genres as well. I am not a big fan of rap, but my kids like it, so let them have the stuff. I give my opinions on it, and they respect my opinions, and I respect theirs.
It depends what kind of rap we're talking about. I hate the vapid, insipid excuse for rap music that's popular today.
While I prefer Metal and rock, I really like rap as well. My favorite rap artists/groups are Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Goddess and She and Public Enemy.
No, rap in general does NOT go too far. Don't let a small group of rappers that like to talk about killing, and having sex with your mom, and dealing drugs ruin rap for you. Some rappers actually have talent and can rap about the real world and what they really do; tell a story. That crap that you hear on TV, that's not rap, that's pop and is there to help push the status quo. I'm a metalhead, but I have a very open mind to music.
ok split hairs they do the bulk of it...white rap groups are posers..trying to BE black and believe they can BE black by spewing filth out of their mouths like water from a firehose..where's Tipper gore , the broad that had a problem with rock..BUT is sure bloody quiet about (c)rap
thank you that's just on the culterial level a a folksinger who can play 7 different instruments (one I even invented) (c)rap is an insult to all entertainers
go for it....becaime an entrepreneur if you can...it will be a lot of hard work BUT the struggle is more than offset by knowing the power of your life is in your own hands
guess the loud music and (c)rap caused comprehension problems didn't read did you..

They aren't trying to be anything. That is an ignorant statement. I could post you all kinds of great positive hip hop but I'm not even going to waste my time.
As for rap: all genre's have their bad and good. When you paint a broad picture, you end up looking foolish though.
Does 'Death Metal' go "too far"?

Filthy rap music is nothing more than Satan's influence on young hearts and minds. It appears in some communities, Satan wins hands down.
