I know of a President who has lots of money and power, but I know a whole lot of people who don't respect him.

Money does not give you power and repect for yourself but people will give you power and respect just because you have money whether you have earned it or not.

It does equate to power (although it shouldnt). My arguement to back that up is that people who have money can pay people to do what they want them to do. If you can influence other people to do what you want by ay means...that is a form of power. But by no means does it equate to respect.

It shouldn't have any effect on how much I respect someone, but unfortunately with money, power does seem to follow it. If a person is loaded with cash, they can buy their way into better situations, such as if they want to get to the head of the line at a restaurant, they slip a little cash into somebody's pocket, and next thing you know there in ahead of everybody else. I should have clicked on it depends, oops!

    In many cases yes.
Sadly, many valuable people with little money of their own are not sufficiently recognised, unless they find sponsors. Think, for instance of the many great artists having lived in poverty and only recognised after their death.

Power, not respect. Respect has to be earned in a different way than money is earned.

It equates to power. I dont respect someone just because they have money. Lots of people who have money get it by very immoral means

It's character and honesty among a few other good traits that brings about respect. Money may bring some power but not real respect.

Look at whats going on in our politics. We have the super pacs buying an election. They're also suppressing the vote. Look at Donald Trump, hes a loud mouth fool, but yet he got Romney to kneel before him and he is always on tv spouting his big mouth.

Yes, unfortunately so often it does. Look at the current candidate for President. Joe Q Public is asked to respect him because he has made a lot of money and no questions as to how he did that. And, it is also true that money buys power -- look to the rich now paying millions to affect the outcome of the election. Let's see if the people give them that power. It will be interesting to see how it comes out.

Money, more often than not, represents power. Respect is an entirely different animal, however. Money cannot command respect, only the illusion of it. Many are willing to promote this illusion for their own benefit...it is not true respect, however.

It is often used to buy power and respect, as in Political Campaigns. If you will look at my Fundly account you will find that I have no money.

    https://fundly.com/s/campaign...

However; I do have a lot of respect from those who know me and support my Campaign.

No, I do not have the power that the Professional Partisan Politicians buy with your money that you give them. However; that does not give them the real power that really working for the American People for the equal benefit of all of the people, as I have done for over 30 years, would give them. They, unfortunately use your money to buy them a position of power over you that they use for their benefit only, and you get little or no benefit out of your money that you have given them.

With regard to respect, only provided the person possesses other things such as character and integrity. As for power, money does give a person a huge advantage. There are a large number of wealthy individuals today who have lots of money and exercise some pretty hefty power, but you'll never get me to respect them because they are basically immoral, unethical and un-American. And, eventually, if people like that continually refuse to clean up their acts, then they get "overthrown" by people who have finally reached the limit of their patience. Or at least one hopes that's what happens!

I suppose power should be defined. What kind of power would a drug dealer have?
  • Bozette Patent1 2012/08/12 02:27:06

The power to buy off police, border patrol, judges, etc. and operate very successfully despite the so-called "war on drugs".

They have no respect, and the power is an illusion. They have no power if they get caught and put in jail. And they are always looking over their shoulder.

Operating with impunity in this country despite the "war on drugs" is not power? LOL I never claimed they had respect.

Again, operating with impunity in this country despite the "war on drugs" is a blatant display of power.
