Personally I'm not too bothered. What's funny though, is when they try to abbreviate, but end up making the word even longer or exactly the same amount of letters.
nah not me. My son is the grammar nazi always correcting my use of words like when I say ate when it should be eaten and such. I have my share of misspellings and misuses but I use very little "text" speak, things like lol and btw but that is about it.
Yep, it takes twice as long to figure out what they are trying to say. And I'm sorry, but if you want me to take you seriously, you probably should write in complete sentences/use actual words.
I don't use it.
Text speak requires knowing a lot of idiotic sets of letters replacing phrases and sometimes sentences, which I still often need to look up and negatively interfers with communication. In a blog it's inconsiderate and lazy. End result I blow off a lot of comments that are top heavy on text speak.
I have excepted that people are generally lazy or stupid by this point, as it's the only way my heart is gomna make it past fifty. what with bp off the charts due to rage aneurysms all the time, I'm lucky to reach 50.
It is pure laziness or imbecility. At least I can tell from that whether people care about their message, or whether they are educated enough to have an opinion worth my consideration.
If they don't care enough or know enough to use proper spelling and grammar, I don't care what they think.
It is the refuge of the lame and lazy, who probably also wonder why they can't find a good job. Good communication skills are important and the written word is an excellent way of demonstrating that you have them. I'm now prepared for the firestorm to begin...
Not really "annoying" (OK, a little) so much as unnecessary. There really is no limit to the number of words one is allowed to use on most blogs... unlike texting/tweeting.
Although I will admit that some people seem to use this lack of a limit to attempt to "wear down" anyone who has a differing opinion. Now that behavior is annoying!
I don't get annoyed. When text speak is used extensively by someone, I think that it's probably because they don't know how to spell and they don't understand how to punctuate correctly. So, they text speak. I don't care one way or the other.
I "am" bothered by the poor educational system in this country. As I watch the news, TV in general or listen to the radio, I am astounded at the poor grammar and the many mispronounced words. The written word is just as bad. I am not, by any means, a spelling or grammar scholar, however, we need better teachers in our schools. More money is not the sole answer. We need less corruption, more parental involvement and more dedicated people as teachers.
When I was in school our teachers were absolutely dedicated to teaching. They didn't have the pay or the perks that teachers have today. Our teachers concentrated heavily on math, English, and history. We were taught how to read and comprehend what we were reading. Because of those basic abilities in math and English, there is absolutely nothing that I can't do as long as I have an access to books. We also had the opportunity to study geography and science. We knew where Russia, China, Africa and yes, even the US was on a map. Yes, I "am" bothered by the poor educational system in this great country of ours. Thanks for your reply.
They are probably texting their posts on Soda Head, when they are not on Twitter and Facebook. I'd like to see Sodahead get rid of their facebook link. I don't like getting Facebook history and cookies anytime I come on this site.
