They get IRS checks for $1000s in earned income credits, they get FREE rent, FREE cell phones, FREE utilities, pay ZERO taxes, collect WELFARE payments... and sell drugs... poor things? I want to be an illegal too.

Contrary to popular belief, Mexicans do not "all" live in poverty and have excellant businesses and homes that they built through hard work not "selling drugs" or in a cartels pocket.

I grew up in McAllen but I don't live down there anymore.. I always loved Port Isabel. I use to always get speeding tickets in a little town between Expressway 83 and Port Isabel, but I can't remember the name of the town anymore LOL

Mexico has some of the most beautiful "resort" type land that tourists flock to every single year, all year long. A lot of the rich got their money from illegal drug type activities, but there are still a lot of them who are legitimate entrepreneurs, and they happened to take advantage of Mexico's more desirous features. Problem is the lack of any kind of middle class in Mexico. That's what America is currently headed for if we continue to allow our politicians to do what they're doing.

Years ago, when my parents were contemplating the time of their retirement, my dad sent away for lots of materials and among them were information on Mexico. Now this was a number of years ago, but Mexico used to be a pretty strong draw for American retirees because you could go down there on a middle-class American retirement program and live like a millionaire in Mexico. And it was on or near the border between Mexico and the US. Lots of Americans (and other foreigners as well, of course) took advantage of this opportunity. I don't know the ultimate outcome but I do know some pretty awesome mansions and "estates" were in existence at that time. Now, however, I don't know what the murder/kidnapping, etc. rate has done to these foreigners, if anything. Parents never retired in Mexico and I ceased reading about it.

No kidding! Ouch. I actually had almost forgotten about it because Mexico was just one of multiple options my folks were thinking about (for planning purposes). Having been out of the US most of our lives, we pretty much were done with overseas life and wanted to come back to the US permanently, which we did. I wouldn't have it any other way. None of my family would, matter of fact.

Wildchild, you need to study mexican history, politics, culture and demografic makeup. There has never been a large or strong middle class in mexico. 70 familys own most of the land and wealth of the country. The richest billionaire in the world is a mexican,,Carlos Slim who lives in Mexico city. The country has the second largest oil field in the world, the Cantrelli field. The country is rich in mineral resources. Its all controlled by those familys with very little trickle down. The poor are mainly indians from the indegionus tribes. The upper class is all of Spanish decent from Spain and they dont intermarry with the indians. The mestizo (mexican) has very little spanish blood or money even though the country was built with their blood, sweat and labor. The tax structure is such that it does not encourage small business (50 %) even though the mexican people have a genius for creating small business and are hard workers and excellent craftsmen. Wildchild the people you saw were the one percent who own the Feudal system that is Mexico.

Not sure but I wish I was in there shoes now. You don't see the 20 Mexicans getting out of the old Pinto anymore, now you see more Mexican family getting out of a New Cadillac Escalade. How ever they made there money it's working for them and I can't hate.

I can't speak for the other border states, but I can tell you they are here in Texas shopping - especially during what they call 'Holy Week' - the week before Easter Sunday. They are all over San Antonio, South Padre, Corpus Christi, etc. spend LOTS of money. You (well, I can) spot a mile away - I don't know how I can, I just can.

The ones I've seen have businesses in their home states of Mexico. They are the middle class of Mexico, which by the way has been growing in leaps and bounds over the last 20 years. Yes in the border towns there are large numbers of poor. You buy your meds from some of those people you saw in south Padre

You can't say they are associated with drugs without proof. There are rich Mexicans who made their money in businesses, just like here. If they choose to keep their money and don't give back to the people, they have that right. Selfish but true. They do hide in their estates, in fear of being robbed.

Mexico is one of the world's ten largest consumer economies and has a vast middle class. Most of the middle class lives in the central and southern parts of Mexico. The north is very poor. The difference between the classes in Mexico and the USA is that the cutoff between MIddle Class and Poor in Mexico is very steep, whereas the cutoff in the USA is very gradual.

Ellos son los afortunados que, a través del trabajo duro o robo, con más de la mayoría de los pobres, sangrado mexicanos! La división entre ricos y pobres es muy grande en México, mucho más amplio que en el Estado Unidos.

How bigoted is that statement, there are plenty of Hispanics that have money besides drug money. Gee my wife made hers as a NICU nurse saving lives, her brother as a probation officer, her other brother as a Lawyer. Oh by the way I am the white trash from the projects.

They are the ones taking our jobs. It is partly our own fault, as the younger people do not want to do the jobs that the illegals do. Plus they seem to be hard workers until you turn your back. I've had first hand experience.
