I love my pets, but not enough to allow them to eat from my dishes. I have a friend that immediately upon finishing her meal, puts her plate on the floor and allows her dogs to eat whatever she left behind. Do you allow your pets to eat from the same dishes you eat from?finishing meal plate floor dogs eat pets eat dishes eatfinishing meal plate floor dogs eat pets eat dishes eat

Only when uninvited guests stop by,and mooch a dinner, then I let the dog lick the plates clean, and put them in the cupboard. They don't come back again ,LOL.

I don't have pets but if I did, I would let them eat off my plate/bowl after I finished eating. I wouldn't use the dishes again until they are washed, anyway so it doesn’t matter.

When I had my dogs over the years, I usually would scrape leftovers off the dinner plates and put them into the dogs' dishes, particularly around my dad, who was such a neat freak with food and dishes. Then one time I caught him putting his dish on the floor for my dog to lick. That did it. So long as you have a dishwasher that puts out such tremendous heat and the sanitizing effects of the dishwasher soaps, it shouldn't bother you to let them lick the plate. But it's gotta be dishwasher, not hand wash. And I don't do it often, just depends on the situation.

I've had cats that ate off my plate with me, not just after me. They didn't bite my part of the food, but I shared. Once, before we were married my late husband ate lunch with me one day. After I was done, I put the plate on the floor for my cat. He was looking at her with surprise and some distaste. I ask him if he had ever done that before and he answered that he hadn't and he didn't realise he was eating out of the same dishes a cat ate from. I told him I washed the dishes well, so what was the problem. He said he didn't guess there was a problem. It was never mentioned again.

That's what soap and water is for. The food my cat ate and what I ate never touched.

I hate it when ppl treat their pets like humans. I hate it when ppl allow their cats to walk on the kitchen table and counters. No matter how much you clean, the hairs are everywhere and it's disgusting. I don't appreciate hairs in my cup...Cats and dogs are not supposed to be fed ppl food..any vet will tell you that it is bad for them and makes them fat..I don't care how clean a persons house is, i know they have a pet the minute they open the door..pet owners don't notice the smell as they become immune to it..Animals lick their butts and i don't even want to hear their mouths are cleaner then ours...LOL

You are so right and cats can cause terrible harm to a pregnant woman.
Cats are carriers of the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis. The parasite lives inside of the cat’s intestines and is passed into their feces. It is more commonly found in cats that are allowed outside that might eat contaminated rats or mice. Changing cat litter may expose you to the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis. It is also found in raw meats or unwashed root vegetables.

    Toxoplasmosis and Pregnancy

If a woman is infected with toxoplasmosis during her pregnancy, her baby is at risk of being infected as well. About 40 percent of babies of mothers infected with toxoplasmosis during pregnancy will also be infected. The effects of the toxoplasmosis are mild to the mother but may cause miscarriage, congenital defects, damage to the eyes, brain, or other problems. Many doctors screen women during their first prenatal visit for this infection but it is not always routinely done.

After I have finished eating, I will sometimes allow my puppies to lick my plate. Then the plate is rinsed and immediately put in the dishwasher. I don't feed my dogs on my plates...they have their own bowls for eating their food.

Why do people say that, it's not true. Dogs have an enzyme that keeps THEM from getting sick from all the crap they eat (like their own crap). It has absolutely nothing to do with their ability or inability to give us diseases. Like the worms that infect their brains and bodies from eating anything.

Like I said, dogs are cleaner than a lot of people I know.
    its true, to a point.
Dogs mouths tend to be open a great deal of the time. More air circulates through the mouth and tounge it kills most microbes and bacteria that like darker, damper conditions. They also dont eat the crap we do, they dont get as much stuff stuck in there teeth. If they only eat hard kibble they will have a cleaner mouth than yours.
Actually on discovery channel Myth Busters show they did a test on dogs mouth compared to humans and the dog was something like 65% cleaner than the humans
Addition Info: Dogs Saliva have anti bacterial make up that clean the teeth and tounge when ever they begin to salivate. Its not a wivestale actually, its a documented treatment of the poor and homeless (street beggars) in biblical times. Those people too poor to get medical treatment would let the street dogs lick there wounds in order for them to heal... not gaping wounds but little cuts, scrapes, soars, blisters. NOW a days we have more antiseptic enviroment, those people were hardier than us. We probably shouldnt let dogs lick our wounds.
CATS on the other hand have Extremely dirty mouth, worse than ours. I would never let a cat lick a wound. Its due to the specilized tounge hairs and the make up of there teeth. Also there diet is more rodent based and therefore get more germs from there food
