But I do comparison shop for larger items. You can usually find it on sale someplace.

Oh, yes Indeedy ..
That's the Way to BALANCE the Budget for sure
(and only purchasing what is needed to fill holes in one's pantry stocks)
is also a prudent way to stay well (financially and health-wise) too

I'm the king of the clearance racks, you can spot me as I'm the one wearing last years clothes purchased at the end of each season. As you can guess I'm not real concerned about being trendy or fashionable. I save money on the things that aren't important to me so I can splurge on the things that matter....well to me anyway.

Depending on the product, sometimes I watch for a sale before I buy. If it's something I "can't live without", all bets are off :)

Me too! I got my china cabinet at a yard sale years ago for $35 and replaced the glass myself. (My dolls live very happily in there!)
