I know it does since I got an email from a judgmental 'christian' telling me he was blocking me due to my 'vulgar' avatar and that he would consider unblocking me should I change my ways...

Of course I couldn't reply to tell him thank you...lol

...I'd NOT want someone that judgmental as a friend anyway

While I like to change it up once in a while, and I often think about using my real mug, I find the Muppet keeps me grounded. That, and I'd grow tired of people without intelligent discourse ripping into my physical appearance.

The only time anyone has ever mentioned my avatar has been an underage user who called me a "big cartoon monster" and some lame jerk who had no legitimate argument against my statement, and so attacked my avatar like it somehow had something to do with the discussion.

That's one of the reasons I chose a shadow, to limit biases relative to comments and questions. But, I also sacrifice the attention of all these, gorgeous, women, on Sodahead... So, I guess I'll remain a prince trapped in a shadow until a beautiful princess comes along to bring me out. It's a fairy tale thing... :)

I do think our avatars have a lot to do with how people interact with us.... women that have sexy pictures as avatars get much more male attention. I love my current avatar and it's my favorite...as I have a few that I have used. When I used a sexy one, I started getting many more comments and emails from men. I have gone back to my regular "Treasure" one now...but will change every once in awhile for some fun.
