Do you think you can tell a lot about someone by how they treat their pets?

Absolutely. You can judge a person or a society by how hey treat those who can't care for themselves whether it's animals or people.

I say this because almost everyone loves their pets and it's easy to treat them well. I think the best way to judge someone's character is to see how they treat ppl who are their "inferiors" (by this I mean someone who they can treat poorly and get away with it, for example, an employee to some extent) and how kindly (or unkindly) they respond to people who are being crass or unkind to them.

Also, whether or not they /have/ a pet reveals a lot about them.

My mother will be so sweet to her dog in public cause its a chihuahua but I have seen her kick & punch it in her own home. People think she's a little "angel" because she has this little dog. It's sickening.

Most people treat others in a similar way they treat their pets. If they're kind and respectful to their four legged family members it's likely they're the same (or close to the same) way with people.

Well, being a cat, I don't really keep pets. However, I do believe that you can really tell something about a person's character based on how they treat animals. There was a quote I knew that was relevant to this, but I forgot it.... oh well.

Yes if you treat your pet with love and respect tells me a lot about who you are as a person. If I see that your dog ( I am a dog person) is very excited about seeing you that tells me a lot about who you are. Dogs are excellent judges of character.

If a person is mean to an animal then that person is mean to people. Those types of people are nothing but bullies who haven't got the balls to pick on somebody their own size.

Adolf Hitler was likely a vegetarian and stricly believed in not tormenting animals. He was ok with executing 6 million people though.

Hitler was NOT a vegetarian. And all the experimentation the Nazi's did on people, were done on animals first.

And finally, what a horrid example you've brought to a benign topic.

It's not a benign topic. Plenty of PETA supporters treat animals better than people. And look at this lovely law passed in Germany, 1933. Maybe the word "strictly" shouldn't have been used, but by reading that law, I'd rather have been an animal than a person living there.

If they are abusive to the animal, they are probably not going to be a very loving person. Animals are not inanimate objects, they feel pain; they can usually sense our emotions better then we can. I would not stay with someone who intentionally hurt an animal except for extreme situations (life in jeopardy for example)
