Not many people know that witchcraft was still a crime in Britain until the 1950s; and not just one of those ancient laws that we'd never got rid of. The last person to be jailed for it was in the 1940s.
The story of what happened to the medium Helen Duncan in the 40s is worth a read.

Yeah sorry it's not really you but people have been abit overly critical of me asking this.
There was recently a teenager who was tragically murdered here in the UK, in the African community, after their family believed them to be a witch. It made me think how many other people still have such an irrational fear of witchcraft.

I don't usually like to state my opinion in my own questions as I think that could harm getting a true poll result. If people think that you're only asking so that you can attack them, then they're less likely to answer. I need to do something in future though as people have been getting completely the wrong impression on this one. Maybe something like (these are not necessarily the views of the questions author).

a. witchcraft is not a crime, yet with the century. b. if you punish people for it, you are testifying to its effects, which makes it a religion and protected under the 1st Amendment so piss off and c. dude just piss off with your stupid questions!

Well not exactly a joke but not to be taken that seriously, I was just curious as to whether anyone still held onto those middle age beliefs and still felt threatened by witchcraft. There was a tragic case of a teenager being murdered here in th UK in the African community because their family believed they were a witch.

Sorry DAW I wasn't aware that I had wrote anything about witchcraft not being a RELIGION. I personally don't believe in the power of witchcraft or any other religion. I was just doing a poll to see what other people think. I was just curious if anyone still holds on to the beliefs of those in the middle ages that witchcraft needs to be rooted out and punished. Please also try to remember that this question is in the fun and humor section and not in the news and politics one.
