Do you think that more jobs should allow teenagers under the age of 16 to work?

The condition of the economy has been dire for many American families for many years, increasing our homelless popularity by leaps and bounds. Lets put America back on her feet before giving jobs away to children who don't have a real need for them.

So often unskilled people get very very poor training in dangerous jobs and end up severely injured or dead.

No! Child labor laws were created to allow children to be children and get educated!

Corporations want to end such laws so they can exploit children when their pool of Illegal Aliens dries up!

I still need to find a job myself, and it'll be hard enough for me to get one, I'm 18.

Not really, the job market is tough enough right now. And those under 16 can make money if they want. I babysat and had enough money to buy a car on my own when I turned 16. They can also have paper routes, and other small jobs.

Nope. Not unless they take away a lot of the restrictions on those working under the age of 16. The rules as written now are way too hard to follow and the penalties for not are too expensive.

teenagers can save up for college, thats why i want a job. or they can buy their own things so they dont have to constantly ask their parents for money. they can be more independent.

There's plenty of opportunities for that! Mow lawns in the summer, get a paper route, babysit, offer to clean out garages, etc.

not everyone offer those jobs. but fast food places are constantly hiring. who delivers papers now a day, esp. when people get them from work or buy them at the store or get the news from t.v. or the internet. and some people have other people doing those jobs already like a maintance man or neighbor to do that stuff for free.

Well, I work at a newspaper, and we deliver a couple thousand a day, have all kinds of youngsters come in to deliver them. Also, I know of many young teens that do the other jobs I mentioned. It's how I bought my first car.

I promise you, no matter where you live, people deliver newspapers. Never heard of one that didn't. Never heard of an area where people didn't need babysitters, or somewhere you couldn't run an ad for wanting yards to mow.

i live in an area that is city/country. if they want babysitters they would want someone older with a car and expierence. i live in a neighborhood where they have people cut the grass. and if you want an ad, you usually have to pay, right?

Actually, we offer several free advertising spots. If your item that you are selling is less than $100, we will give you a free spot for three days. Really sir, I don't know what got your panties in a bunch, but you probably could use a hug right now.

Honestly, I think you're making excuses. I live in a city/country as well. Actually, while babysitting when I was 14/15, I had one lady that would pick me up and drop me off, or my parents would. If you're motivated, you can find work.

My sons both delivered newspapers. It did them no harm to get up and go out early in the morning and then go to school. There were days when it was really cold or raining that I thought twice about them going out early. It did not interfere with school. Gave them a little money and they liked riding around.

Ah your the one that exploits child labor $5.00 a week to slave 2 hrs a day 7 days a week delivering packing paper & trash?
  • LittleM... Dweezle 2012/06/28 18:45:46
    LittleMistersMom
Nope, I just work there, Also, we don't deliver seven days a week, just five, and they get paid much more than $5 a day.

I am curious, who is going to make sure the people offering such "jobs" are not predatory child mollesters?

Why do you think Girl Scouts no longer sell cookies door to door?
  • LittleM... Dweezle 2012/06/28 18:47:07

That's what parents are for. It's your mentality that has turned teenagers these days into entitled little brats. I did all of these jobs growing up and it taught me responsibility, and the value of the money I earned. A hard day's work never hurt anyone. As well as the above offers, why not bail some hay for a farmer (I grew up on a farm). Get off your high horse.

and parents who have been out of work could feed their children and pay the rent,

How would you feel if all of sudden your parents didn't have an income? Would you want those jobs that could help support your family to go to teens who just want extra money?

I think kids of fourteen and fifteen should be encouraged to volunteer at libraries or hospitals or child care facilities. The experience they would get would be more educational then packing groceries or running errands for almost nothing.

But then they're not making money. Every individual has at least some level of self interest. Give them the choice.
