Do you think math is the language of the universe? Why or why not?

EVERYTHING :)
To a certain extent it could be.
It's what we use to describe the world around us in absolute terms. But we're just communicating to ourselves. That another sentient species somewhere in the universe would think in any way similar to us is a big assumption.
I understand that there is some math that "just is." But you have to think a certain way to even get to the point of recognizing that.
We humans have been around for roughly 45-50 thousand years. We didn't discover Pi until about 4000 years ago. So, we were around for 90% or more of our existence before we discovered something that "just is." Fricken, "zero" wasn't even a "real thing" until around 650AD.
So, it's possible, I guess. If we could get the math of one species to map onto the math of another.
The periodic elements are at least tied with math for universal language. At the very least the will probably form the alphabet that alien species use with each other. Assuming they are both close in technological development.
