obviously, as there are specific conditions for life to exist. it is impossible for there, in the infinite area that is space, not to be galaxies overloaded with planets that meet these conditions. what One should be asking is 'is there INTELLIGENT life outside earth?' then, of course, the answer would inevitably be 'If there is, its not here on earth.'

I used to think anything was possible. But I have come to realize it is not possible for me to think there can be no life elsewhere!

If not, it's a terrible waste of space.

I do believe God is creative and probably did create people on other planets.

Of course, I mean like, the universe is over a trillion times larger than this planet, how can we be the only ones living? Huh? I mean, of course there's gotta have to be more.

There is just no possible way we can be the only ones out there... When u think about how big space is and how far it really really is to get to the next thing.. There is just no way we are the only ones out there..

We know it does because we've found some. Specks, possibly originating from Earth, but it exists. Question is really how much and in what form... and the fun question is "is there any INTELLIGENT life"? Dunno.

Since there are literaly billions of stars outside our solar system then I think it is close minded to think that it is not a possiblity. It seems almost obvious to me, if it happened here it can happen somewhere else.

l believe some type of life form exists throughout the universe. Are they humans similar to us? l do not believe they are humans.

You're probably right about that. The pressures of natural selection would obviously be vastly different on another planet than they are here. Whatever organisms that will have evolved are certain to be very, very different than the ones we see here.
  • Lorax Merry☆ 2012/06/09 21:14:56

Very true and keep in mind we are unique with our planet in that we are in an orbit with our sun that allows life on earth to flourish with the correct mixture of O2 and other chemicals that promotes life. The majority of planets that we have some knowledge of are not suitable to substain life as we know it.
  • Merry☆ Lorax 2012/06/09 21:26:31

But in an infinite universe there are an infinite number of planets which are capable of supporting life.

Oh, and about the "correct mixture of O2 and other chemicals" thing... I don't think there really is a "correct" mixture. We evolved to be dependent on this balance because that's what our environment is like, but somewhere else life could've evolved totally differently. Does that make sense? lol
  • Lorax Merry☆ 2012/06/09 21:49:24
    Lorax
lt does make sense and in a way supports what l was saying. Life is possible on other planets, just not as the way we know life. Our norm is not their norm and their norm is not our norm.

We, as humans, need a cetain percentage of O2 in our blood stream in order to maintain life. That does not mean every form of life has to be that way and is not that way. Is some other form of life out there? lt would be nice to know we are not alone in the vast wilderness of space.

Of course there is intelligent life in the Universe besides us. Now do I believe they have ever been or landed here......No. I think they have the same problems that we do. Expense and distance. No "WARP" speed for then either.

    Why not?

An entire universe that cannot be measured and many are arrogant enough to believe we are the only intelligent species on an insignificant, extremely tiny, ball of mud.

EDIT: And I use intelligent extremely loosely in light of much of today's world.

There are already tantalising indicators that life might be far more common that we first imagined. There will be a number of projects conducted in the next few decades, especially to study Jupiter's Moon Europa which may have liquid water beneath it's frozen surface.

New research suggests that there is plenty of oxygen available in the subsurface ocean of Europa to support oxygen-based metabolic processes for life similar to that on Earth. It is also now known that Mars contains frozen water that may contain microbial life.

As for advanced life elsewhere in the universe I think it is a mathematical certainty that it exists.

not intelligent life. Maybe small forms of single-cell organisms that we would barely recognize as life. And they may not "live" long to evolve.

but in the sheer vastness of the universe, the conditions for life on earth must be replicated. we dont know how many planets in the universe have met these conditions, but statistically, its almost certain

Recent experimentation conducted on ice brought back from a remote asteroid would suggest that all life starts there rather than here.

As when the earth started to cool there was no water until the planet was impacted by asteroids made up of water.

The samples brought back from the asteroid by the Japanese proble showed that the water contained the proteins that are required to produce life.

This might also explain the micro fossils found in Martian rock samples that suggest that the process started on Mars but abrutply stopped as the mass of Mars was not large enough to hold on to a wet atmosphere....
