I have pretty good humor, so if it's all in good fun, then I understand. But some people take it too far, like with the death threats and actually beating people up. There's a line, and that would be crossing it.

Besides, every person with red hair I've ever met has turned out to be awesome!

I hated my red hair as a kid, but now as an adult I love being a ginger. It was cool when I visited England I didn't stand out in the crowd.

My son is a red head and so is one of his good friends. There is a difference between the way their friends tease them and some of the stuff that goes on that people seem to take seriously, like Kick a Ginger day.

I dont know when that particular foolishness started, to be frank.

I remember hearing ignorant phrases like 'red-headed step child' growing up, but it was never something so serious that people were actually comparing it to racism and other atrocious systematic institutions.

(Yes, some girl here DID actually tell me that its 'just as bad as the racism blacks experience'.)

I think the whole gingers are evil thing started with South Park. Of course it was not meant to be taken seriously and copied but somebody managed to spread the idea through the internet/facebook. I've got dark reddish-brown hair and my son is a strawberry blonde. My ex had a bright red beard. Red hair is normal to us. When the kick a ginger thing happened my son was in high school and big and muscular enough to not be threatened. I was teaching in an elementary school and was on the watch for any abuse of my red headed students.

It used to really bother me when people made fun of me.
Now it's just whatever to me. If they want to make fun of me, then fine.
I still don't really understand why they do it.

My third cousin has red hair. When she was born we were shocked. About five kids in each generation in my family get red hair. It's a pretty color.
