If it happens it probably won't be for another few hundred years, but we are now accepting so many freedoms and attitudes that were once taboo and unthinkable. Dark people were once shunned; women were once considered inferior to men; written work was censored; homosexuality was once illegal (on top of many other former taboos that have turned into rights). Nowadays, in most countries, people can think and express pretty well anything they want without fear of prosecution or persecution. In North America, people accept those with dark skin as equal to those with light skin. Homosexuality is now legal, and all of Canada and a few states have even legalized same sex marriage. Women have the same value as men in society. In addition to all these rights we are acquiring over time, the clothing we wear is slowly dwindling. In the late 19th century, the bathing suit, especially the women's, covered most of the body. Nowadays, men's bathing suits only cover the abdomen, and leave the chest and legs totally uncovered. Women's only cover the abdomen and the breasts. Peoples' clothing was much more heavy and un-revealing. In Elizabethan times, even piano and table legs had to be covered and people couldn't even see a woman's ankle or neck. Now, women rarely wear dresses anymore, and shorts and sandals, with a light shirt are common, particularly on a warm day. What do you think? With all these freedoms we are acquiring, and our attire becoming less elaborate, will clothing, one day, be worn solely or mainly for protection? Will nakedness be common, legal and accepted? Will the taboo about unclothed bodies, someday, be no more?

We are avid nudist and wish it would go ahead and happen. Going naked makes life so simple. Sure, if it is cold cover up to stay warm but in the summer naked works just fine.

    I'm with you.
I keep my a/c above 80 in the summer - in Florida. and laundry is far less cumbersome. the amount of electricity saved is, I'm sure, substantial.

For those who live above the Arctic Circle, this would not be advisable! Some people should be required, by law, to be totally covered in public! For instance, I have a neighbor across the street from me who is so butt-ugly that the sight of her naked would constitute "sight pollution"!

It's already clothing optional - you just have to go to certain places to do it.

I wish it would though, so I can let my junk swing freely when I walk.

As crazy as it may sound now, I think this could, one day, be the case, and we are, slowly, heading in this direction. If I built a time machine and travelled into 2150 or 2200, I wouldn't be all that surprised to see naked people walking around. It might seem like a horrifying prediction for the future, but people from 1850 would be pretty horrified that we accept unmarried cohabitation, homosexuality, and dark-skinned people.

The himan race could evolve in about 10,000 years ? Maybe anything is possible unless we blow ourselves up or an asteroid destroys civilization.
