Evolution does not necessarily imply that an organism is fully adapted to all possible environments and situations, it only means that as adjusted it's design to the specifics of it's local environment.

...it would appear that the human race has staked an unsustainable path in light of many different environmental factors, and if it doesn't adapt anew to the ever growing crisis that it's numbers have created on this planet, that we will probably soon be witnessing a collapse in our general quality of life in light of soil erosion, increased environmental toxins and diminished food supplies due to extinction and over fishing.
