In my neck of the woods, you will still find people saying please and thank you and holding doors open for people which is quite surprising.

I wouldn't say it is completely dead, but it really can't be called "common" courtesy anymore either, that notion makes it sound like it's common... and it is not.

But as long as I shall live, I'll make sure I add to the "courtesy pool", and by example, show others to do the same to make it common again.

    Beck∞♥☮♫♫♫∞
That is very true. by "adding to the pool" it does help.

It's getting there! I can't believe how people can be so rude and cruel. I always hold doors open for people ...but I can't believe how many doors get slammed in my face.
And, when you go shopping...people don't even say "excuse me" most of the time...it seems to be a dying breed. I just don't understand people anymore.

No, but it is on the endangered list. I fear that when my generation is gone, it will pass with us. People see it as a bother, or just totally unnecessary. *sigh*

that is true. There are a few in my generation who still practice this...but some....they seem to think the world owes them. Sad really. Just this past weekend. there was a women my age who dropped her wallet and new pack of cigs. She kept walking. I said loudly nicely...."EXCUSE ME...EXCUSE ME MA'AM!!! MA'AM, she turned gave me a dirty, nasty look and yelled..."WHAT THE F*CK YOU WANT" i bent down, pick up her things handed them to her, smiled and said," you dropped some things." and handed them to her....she snatched them out of my hand, turned around and walked away....i thought...geezzz ya hateful fool.

Common courtesy is alive and well. It may just be a bit more uncommon than it used to be!

It is dead politically. It is alive and well otherwise. Probably one sees less civility in cities, but small communities do quite well in that respect.

i wasnt talking about politically Tasine, just in the world in general. In your community or even work place. I live in a small town and work in the city. My work place...they are amazingly disrespectful to others and one another.

I believe it. Cities are different animals from country folks. THAT is one of the big divides in our nation. I question this: once a person turns rude and nasty, can they ever be rehabilitated? IOW, are their humanitarian selves gone? Hang in there, and be happy you have a decent place to come home after work. ;-)

I brought my daughter up to understand what common courtesy is and is not. She's 40 now, and you'd never think I told her a darn thing. And the older she gets, the worse she gets. And it shows in my GS, he learns what he sees.....but he knows it doesn't fly here.

Just drive down the freeway, many are young and have little regard for anyone, instead of
having common courtesy, they drive or become rude!
