    Yes and No.
The general perception of what is considered fat in America has changed, in a time when a double zero size is a goal, people that were considered skinny ten years ago are being told to lose a few (twenty) pounds now. I'm sure based on statistics that we are much heavier than we were in the 90s and thin all the way up to obese, we are definitely out of shape.

Yes. While the media does tend to portray a skinny model that is most likely underweight and not at a healthy range, a lot of people are too overweight. Fast food that's accessible nearly everywhere... lack of routine exercise.. it leads to obesity and a slew of other health problems.

Its okay to have some cushion on you, but there is a point where one needs to focus on maintaining a healthy weight, whether or not its "skinny."

Yes and the main reason is inactivity like sitting at a keyboard hours days weeks striving for a hollow victory of Level 20 on an internet site.

Some people need a little boost or encouragement they don't get. My friend doesn't walk or excercise unless we do together. We're both a little competitive, so it keeps us motivated when we have someone to work with or against. A lot of people don't have the support system they need. They need someone to get them started and then they get used to it and keep it up on their own.
