I have talked with a few people that give the vibe that stay at home parents are a bit of a joke and not a real job at all...
I want your honest opinion:)
Thank you

Yes, it's the toughest job ever. I was a stay at home Mom and I was made to feel by some that I was lazy and should get a job. I was always busy, my kids weren't latch key kids, I was always there for them. This is not to say that it would work for everyone, but it was what worked for me and my family and we have never regretted it.

Stay at home moms (or dads) work at this job 24/7, very few vacations or breaks. Tell me that isn't hard. Its a thankless, never ending job. But it also has many rewards.

Not only is it a REAL job, but you don’t get any lunch breaks, coffee (or in my case tea) breaks and it’s a 24/7 job…and you don’t get paid anything and most of the time, people that have that job don’t get any appreciation for it either…
But we don’t do it for the appreciation, and we don’t do it to get paid, we do it because we love our family. And that’s enough of a reason for me to be a stay at home mother ^_^

    Blessings to all and,
May all be well with you ^_^

Anyone who's foolish enough to think it's not a job should stay at home for a week and try it.

It's what they choose to do. Some wish they had the luxury of being stay at home parents. I commend you for it. That maybe the best way to raise your children today. It work better about three generations ago. Most kids from back then grew up to appreciate everything better. Keep it up, if you can.

It's a long hard job. One thing about being a stay at home parent is you are absolutely uour own boss. Every decision you make is your own and your are completely responsible for everything that goes on in your home and with your children. You have to be able to make your own decisions and to have the independence of spirit to keep everything going.

The difference between being a stay at home parent and going to work everyday is that a stay at home parent is independent. If you are working you will always be a dependent. You are forever a subservient who has to respond to a boss or master with no chance of speaking your own mind. You must obey at all costs or fear being fired or kicked to the curb.

The role of a full-time domestic engineer is hell on wheels, especially with little kids and no paid help like maids, butlers, etc.

I think it's totally different to a real job, where you can't arrive a minute late for work or leave five minutes early. You don't have a boss breathing down your neck and demanding results, the pressures are more on what you put on yourself.
I'm not saying it's easy or even that it's easier than a regular job but it's a totally different way of living.

Yes and it's a 24/7 job if you're doing it right. You're up at the crack of dawn, your up all night with sick kids, you cook, clean, play, shop and are running around constantly. It really is a job.

I did not work outside the home after our only child was born 30 years ago and I never regretted giving up my teaching career. It was a bit difficult the first few years but my husband began making more money and things began to get easier as each year passed. I worked as a mom, a chef, a housecleaner, a chauffeur, a nurse and a wife. It was during the years when our daughter began school and was gone during the day that I began to volunteer through different organizations. I have loved my life and have loved the fact that my husband could support the three of us. Being a stay at home mom IS a job and a great one. Anyone who says otherwise has not a clue.

Amen Betz, exactly what my life was like, and I have never regretted it. But I did have a couple of part time jobs only when they were in school, and I was always there when they got home from school. It's a tough job but very rewarding.

Personally I could never have handled both emotionally and physically getting a child ready for school and myself ready for work. I do admire those who do though. We were fortunate Starz.

I agree, if some want to work and can handle it that's fine, but I liked being at home when they got home, meals were always ready on time, we didn't have to rush around all the time, and I wasn't dead tired all the time.

You're right, we were very fortunate.
