With global warming, Sandy type storms will become common. Something needs to be done. Not sure what it is but hat ever the cost, it will be worth it.

I grew up in the NYC area and really cannot see how any such seawall could be built.

It would take two such dams. One across the Verizano Narrows and one between the Bronx and Long Island. And that would still leave most of Staten Island and the Brooklyn south shore unprotected. And those two coastlines are among the areas most affected by Sandy.

Mother nature always wins. This storm is like nothing we have ever seen in that region. How can you prepare for something that has never happened before in history? Go ahead, build your $6 Billion sea wall, and when those states are hit with a tornado, ice storm, earthquake, etc. you will still be caught with your pants down and to add insult to injury you will not have paid off the sea wall. Just my humble opinion of course.

...the best thing you could do to NJ is flood it, flush it and start over..(maybe snooki will wash out to sea with the other effluent..)
