No, but I'm on a scrip to deal with it. A couple of weeks ago I ran out. It was 10x worse during the lapse between refills than it ever was before I went on the medication. My stomach was on fire.
I suffer from acid reflux, which at times causes immense heartburn, especially at night. Luckily it hasn't been bothering me in its worst form in a while now, but I still get heartburn, especially if I eat something with tomatoes in it. Thank goodness for Rennie!
I heard loooong ago that mates can develop sympathy illness wherein they end up with the same ailments as their mates. . . I sure hope not since my man has less than 20% of his stomach left! Still, he has GERDS severely and I was put on medication over a year ago. .. various ones such as Bentyl, Levsin and Pepcid and now Nexium but I have reflux or that girgle feeling in my chest and lower throat almost nightly! It drives me nuts and Nexium is not touching it at all. What can one take for that. . . and do NOT say TUMS cause they do not do it either!
You might have to double your dose of Nexium or similar drugs like Prilosic or Prevacid, etc. since the over the counter version is not as strong as the prescription strength, that's what I did.
yes, the Nexium IS a prescription but I am not happy that the doc did not replace the second med he removed as I was taking 2 different ones. Guess I will have to go back a second time or do as you say and get something over-the-counter. . . took 3 GasX and 4 tums last night. At least Cherry GasX taste good!
From my limited personal experience it sounds like you need to see a specialist and let him diagnosis the problem rather than let your family doctor simply treat the symptoms. You'll probably end up at the hospital for a test that has you drinking a chalk like substance while they ask you to think about your favorite foods while scanning your esophagus to see if you have a hiatal hernia (torn muscle) or a leaky valve/sphincter muscle. Mine was leaking and it was going from my esophagus and into my windpipe aggravating my asthma.
The long term effects of stomach acid leaking out can be serious so you ought to get this figured out soon and not let it continue on for years.
Thank-you for your advice. I have had the upper and lower GI done 18 months ago before being diagnosed with IBS. My husband has had a lifetime of the worse possible reflux problems. . . compliments of the military. In 71 while stationed in Germany having surgery for a hiatal hernia the army doctors tore his eshophogus while inserting the tube for surgery. (The tubing was not very flexible in 71 ) A 2 wk or less hospital stay turned into a 2 month one for him because the tear became horribly infected and additional surgeries were done; experimental ones as well and as a result his left lung which had been deflated for the first surgery NEVER reinflated and now his eshophogus does not work AT ALL. He can not eat solid food and has less than 20% of a stomach left. His reflux is ofcourse severe GERDS and he lost all his teeth within a few years. He has reflux or vomits at least once weekly and I know ALL the ailments of how awful it all can become. I have drank the nasty chalk stuff before but not in the last year now.
So sorry to hear about you and especially your husband's condition, I just thought I'd pass on my limited personal experience with the hope that it might be of some assistance. (Didn't mean to come off sounding like a know it all.) Good luck and I sincerely hope you get a handle on this painful condition.
Oh that's ok. . . I did not think ill of your comment at all! Most people luckily do not know that much about it. My husband is so rare in his ailments and condition that he has a group of doctors and they and new interns always gather in groups to look at his x-rays and stuff. He is truely amazing or a wonder. He keeps me wondering all the time for sure! Haha. I personally do not have good luck with docs and go as seldom as possible. I just hate to throw money away. I appreciate your thoughts and concern. You are very kind!
i find it so weird that this of all questions would be on today cause i just had my first serious case of heart burn in my entire life today:) man it hurt!
or some quick ease....
Might as well be heartburn. ;-)
