Just for the fact all cell service will be cut in a terror attack and when the power is out I will always keep a land line with a back up rotary dial available and it's come in handy many many times through the years.
Here's where I'm at with phones. I still use a rotary dial phone and refuse to be connected to a machine that i carry around all the time like most people are.
not since.. well, I guess 2006? to me a land line is of no practical use. you have it never with you, if you go often out then it mostly ends up ringing with nobody answering it
I always have one in the house incase the power goes out, cordless won't work without power. Yeah, the cell, but I like to have the land line as an extra backup.
And VOIP won't work without Power either. I am pretty surprised that some people don't seem to know the difference between an analog land line and a digital VOIP line, 2 completely different animals. If my husband were not a amateur radio operator (who can go out in his car and run a radio from his battery, also we have a generator), but anyway, if it were not for that, I would never have gone for the VOIP. If you are using anything that works over the Internet, and it goes down, you have no phone, even IF you have power.
Very true:) If you live in hurricane territory, like me, you have to be prepared, just like in heavy snow stuff fails, being prepared saves time, money, and lives.
Is there any other kind of telephone service that's dependable? I pay $115 a month for two cell lines that everyone in the world hears my conversation. I could'nt be a criminal if I wanted to owning a cell phone. They can tract you within inches of your location. Can't hear or be heard 50% of the time. A state of the art cell phone 4G something from ATT that you have to be a doctorate in communication and engineering to understand. Can't dial out because the other features want you do use them first because they all cost more money. This is what I'm saying about all this hope and change to the world lately. This is better?
Lan line phone has no problem with dead battery. It cannot get lost in the sofa cushions. 911 will work on it without a doubt. There is no mistake of shutting it off or muting it by accident. You can't drop it in toilet, down a stairwell or sewer. It won't get mowed over either. You can also be certain no one took a picture of their penis on the phone to shock you later. Also, some government and businesses still require fax. Oh and your little girl won't be using it as a substitute vibrator.
This is what I use:
I subscribe to Skype's paid service which is very nominal by comparison to landline service. In America it's $60.00 per year, and depending on what country you live they typically include 2 or 3 countries in your coverage zone, in America for example, the coverage includes all of America, and all of Canada. And call waiting, caller id, conference call, and all other features that are normally extra money with landline, and cell phone providers are FREE on Skype. The difference between their free, and paid services is the free service is limited to calling people within their network, the paid service you are able to call anyone within their network as well as call people on landline, and cellphones.
However, between Landline and Cell Phone, I would Choose Landline any day of the year! I value my health to subject myself to Microwave Frequency Transmissions!
Actually I use neither.
