No way. For people who don't see well (such as myself with glasses and all), those tv's are useless. I had the older, super-heavy version of the flat screen stored away (still perfectly good) but threw it away since I got a lightweight, HD flatscreen. I was also able to throw away my heavy tv stand/entertainment center taking up space and can pick up my 36" tv with one hand to clean under it, move it around, etc. It's so nice to be able to see/read words clearly and not have any bulky furniture meant to carry the weight. I keep my tv on a glass-top spare end-table now.
Trust me....getting rid of the "tube" (even the newer ones like I had that were really heavy and bulky) is well worth the cost. You can see more clearly, need less furniture, and can move your tv around when you switch your furniture with no problems. I didn't even bother selling my old flatscreen. I just put it out to trash with my entertainment center.
i am so old school its ridiculous. but we cant afford a flat screen right now. and we need anew tv. our old one the color isnt right. as soon as we move and get settled we will have more money and will be able to afford a flat screen.
Yes, but only because I still have the tube jobs that I replaced with flat screens because I didn't have the heart to pitch TVs that still functioned (and the local Salvation Army charity where I donate my still usable goods won't accept electronic items).
Had a GIANT 36" RCA that was like 17 years old and it finally took a dump...Cost too much to fix and too damn heavy to move..Moved a smaller 27" from the bedroom into the spot in the big freekin' cabinet thingy where the TV used to be..It kinda looks weird but who cares...
Yes. I got a 27" CRT one I bought in '01 (After 911) , and a 19" stereo one I bought in '86. I'll probably buy a flat screen one after the dust has settled on types( dlp, lcd, led. plasma.etc,) and the prices go down while technology features go up.
Sure do...a 27" RCA Stereo TV, bought new in 1990! It is a beautiful floor model that has a better picture than a smaller, flat panel LCD I own. This tv has never needed service! I will keep it until one of us gives out!!
Actually yes I do, I was just thinking of what to do with it. It just takes up space in my garage. It still works, 19" JVC with built in VCR, has the remote.....any suggestions?
Two out of the four tvs in the house currently are those types. The other two are flat screens that were both bought this year when the other old ones finally gave out and had to be replaced. I don't throw out something that works. So as long as the other two still work, I'm not replacing them.
Yup, sure do. Got one at Salvation army for 10 bucks and the other one was all that was left after my divorce.
It doesn't really matter because I don't have TV service [antenna, cable, satelite] anyway. Just DVD/VCR from the library & netflix.
Technically. Someone gave us an old TV with a huge tube. It has a bigger screen than any of our modern TVs, but I am afraid to lift it! I didn't know how to turn it down, especially for free, but wanted to.

It has excellent picture and sound, mostly due to being off for years.
Why would anyone buy a FLAT screen tv is beyond me.
Use? No.
