I'm one of those guys who quit smoking when I was 17, and is much more averse to smoking than if I had never smoked. At the time I quit, I smoked two packs a day, and I loved to smoke. But after about a year of smoking, I had bronchitis and chest colds every other month, and just decided it was hurting me and something I didn't need.
I'm unusual in that I really wanted to quit, and quit overnight, and never had any temptation to smoke again. I had bad cramps for a few days that I thought was a stomach virus, and a nurse later told me was nicotene withdrawal. I had a carton of cigarrettes left when I quit, and just gave them away to my brother. Who 34 years later, still smokes!
I think it was about a full year after I quit before my body fully recovered from smoking.
My advice to those trying to quit: smoking for me was something to do with my hands while I was socializing.
What I did was keep my keys in my hand and fidget with them while I was at a bar or otherwise around friends or at home, as a substitute for holding a cigarrette. After a couple months, I didn't even feel like I needed to do that. And again, never went back to smoking.
yeah theres other things you can spend your money on than cigarettes. maybe if i know someone who smokes cigarettes i might ask for one every now and then but i can do without them.
