I try to, but I don't always succeed at it. I am trying to get better, though.

I started designing and sewing my own clothes at age four. Mom was pissed when she found out where her nice sheets went to...

I'm not great at it or anything. I just have the will and find a way.

I usually buy inexpensive clothes though. It's often cheaper and certainly can be faster than sewing.

I have a sewing machine but use it only here and there for small repairs, and from hand all what needs a fix, for example my slippers. They got more than a year extended life. Really rubbish (new ones cost 1.50), but it was fun

I always wanted to learn to sew. I asked my mother to buy me a sewing machine a few years ago, but she never did.

Do they have home economics in school these days? That's where I learned. My mother was an accomplished seamstress but never taught me.

My grandmother could make her own patterns to sew anything she wanted and I learned from her. What a lady! She could do anything. I still enjoy fancy embroidery when I get a chance; I had the coolest jeans around back in the day. :)

That's awesome, Golanv - to make a pattern and work from it is the great divide. I never ventured too far into that territory.

Thanks, Ali! It's actually pretty easy. Just start with newspaper and lie down on it. :D I made some pretty funky things in college but I knew without a doubt I'd never see the same thing on someone else. ;)

On my grandmother's ancient Morse sewing machine and by hand when necessary. I do mostly curtains and mending, but give me a pattern and I can make it : )

She works ... unfortunately if you look behind the machine there is a stack of mending to do. I'll get to it after the 4th is over, lol.

Me too! I haven't had to oil her since she froze on me about 10 years ago. They made things to last back then including my grandmother who will be 95 this year : )

I love to sew simple things like dresses and curtains, lots of mending because farming is rough on clothes.
