I was brought up with manners, to say please and thank you, and, to respect my elders. Even if they don't treat me with respect, I won't drop to their level.

    Well ..
I'd better do so (it was expected that we respect our elders when growing up .. )
and even more important to do so nowadays ..
with so many passing on each and every day ..
and myself .. becoming one of them too!

I was raised to respect my elders so yes I do. That being said I was also raised not to accept someone treating me badly. So if an elder is being rude to me I will let he or she know that is not acceptable.

yes, BUT i won't go against my beliefs in the process. if they say something and i disagree with it, i will tell them but respectfully. just because they're old doesn't mean i have to agree with them, but it doesn't mean i have to be rude.

It is how I was raised, how we raise our daughter. The country was more civil when children were taught to respect their elders. We should go back to this, one family at a time.

Not all of them. I hate the old peoples that think everyone should respect them simply cause they're old. So what? If you don't show me any respect, kindness or curtesy, do not expect me to give it to you.
Some old people are like those people you hold the door open for them and they just breeze past you like, "that's right, hold the door open for me."

I always did-----but it's amazing that as I got older, how much smarter they were than when I was young. Now, I'm one o' them (but probably not as smart)!

There should be an "other" choice. In general, I open doors and other things like that for the elderly - and taught my daughters to do likewise. Now, that being said, I give respect to those who earn it. If an "elder" is acting like an horse's behind, they don't get my respect.

I was brought up to respect them even if I couldn't stand them. My husband on the other hand was not, he only gives it if you earn it from him and we have fought this bringing our daughters up.

I love the elderly. There's a lot of wisdom and knowledge with older people. If you want to know about the "real" history of what went on in the past, ask an elderly person.School books only cover half the facts, while somebody that's been there will tell you all the cold hard facts.Besides,I was raised to respect and listen to my elders at all times.Thank God I had parents to instill that in me.
