Yes, and I remember when they changed actors from one season to the next to play the part of Darren.

I would also say that this is the best project that Agnes Morehead ever did. I have since seen here in "Dark Passage", "All That Heaven Allows," and "The Magnificent Obsession," among other projects. And. I. Did. Not. Like. Her. AT. ALL. in any of them. But as "Endora" in "Bewitched," she was perfect.

Paul Lynde made his fortune being a regular on "Hollywood Squares," with his comedic answering of the questions. But unfortunately, he was a chronic alcoholic, which lead to his early death.

I kind of forgot about him. He was a pretty weird character. Gay. I guess it's possible but I doubt it. Back then you didn't even discuss homosexuality in polite company. But it is possible I grant u that.

No...he was gay. Dick Sargent was as well (The replacement "Darrin"). Sargent stayed in the closet until right before he died I think.

Lynde's homosexuality was kind of an "unsecret secret" in Hollywood in the 60's and 70's. One of his lovers even died mysteriously and there was a controversy about that for a bit. He just never really "showed" it in public...but everyone knew it...you know? He was the 70's version of Clay Aiken I guess.....

You just destroyed my childhood memories thanks a lot. LOL

Ah well it's certainly no unsecret now. Hollywoods agenda is out their where even a naive kid understands it.

Why did that destroy them? So some of the cast members were homosexual? So what? It certainly doesnt hurt what they did when they were part of this great classic TV show! Sexual preference is a personal thing and should not matter at all!

Lighten up Chewy. The LOL meant the comment was tongue in cheek. I could care less about anyone's sexual orientation other than my own.

The unfortunate thing about Agnes Moorehead, is that she was nominated for an Oscar four time and never won. She worked with Robert Montgomery, Elizabeth Montgomery's father. A former English teacher, who make a superb actress.

The first Darren played the part well, of being the victim of Agnes Moorehead's pranks. But the second Darren was just too flat, to have any viability in the series. A wise choice was not made in hiring him as a replacement.

Him and Elizabeth Montgomery were close friends. She knew all the time he was gay, and out of her friendship for him, she volunteered to be the grand marshall at the Los Angeles Gay Pride Parade. She was friends with him, but the first Darren quit the series because of health problems. After he did, he and the cast members never saw and spoke to each other again.

Thats so sad. I loved Paul Lynde and Dick Sargent ( I liked both Darrins and I though both men brought their own style to the show). Their being gay didnt make any difference. They were all so talented. TV was so great back then!

Moorehead basically chewed up the scenery.
