I think it definitely depends on which type of doctor you are seeing. For general physician I would probably prefer a male, but I'm not sure why. If I go to the ophthalmologist I prefer a female who has good ophthalmic equipment sales and I feel like they are a bit more gentle. Maybe I just have sensitive eyes...

i clicked female but i was really looking for the 'i don't care' option. they're doctors, they're professionals and they've seen it all before. it's not like i'm going to be any different for them. it really doesn't bother me either way.

I think men should see male doctors and women should see female doctors.

There should've been an all of the above option. Then my answer would be "male or female, I just want a good doctor"!

As a female myself, I'd prefer a woman.

Either/or is o.k. with me but I have had the same doctor for the last twelve years and she is female and a great doctor.

I feels uncomfortable when a male doctor touches me. I like women doctors a lot more.

Why would I need a female doctor? I am not built that way. ;-)

Seriously, you need an "either" option.

Because she's the same sex as me and I'm pretty uncomfortable with anyone seeing me out of my clothes, much less a grown man. Though it seems that the men are a bit more nice. The women seem to be the no nonsense type. xD

Actually I prefer a GOOD one, this poll should have had a "other" selection because it really doesn't matter to me.

That being said, my last primary care physician was male--loved him and what's more, everyone in the family loved him, too. Had to switch because my stupid insurance no longer had him in their preferred provider list. Current PcP is a woman, but she's leaving the clinic, so now, I have to find another one this summer. Phooey!

Being a male, I thought at first I would only be comfortable with male doctors. However, I have found that I'm able to talk to female doctor just as easily. I also, in general, tend to get better feedback from female doctors.

I started with the same assumption.
I also found my female doctor more thorough and more instructive than my prior male doctors.

My primary doc & rheumatologist are women, but my neurologist, urologist, dermatologist, & neuro-opthamologist are men. The doc that I work for is a man and is very chatty. Sometimes, I have to page him to my desk phone to let him know he needs to wrap things up...lol.

Also, getting a scoliosis check from a male doctor is painfully awkward. Especially when your mom is right there....

I prefer a female GYN. They can better relate to having that cold speculum stuck up you. Otherwise I don't really care, my primary doctor is male and I love him to death..
