You cannot win if you don't play. But it's the smaller games (50 cents for a chance at one million dollars, for example) that I play. Also, lottery here (Canada) might work different than in the United States.

Why? You will never win. Now the Governor of Minnesota Mark Dayton (progressive liberal) has shut down the State and because of it, the lottery and scratch games are shut down. Go figure....... he supposedly works for the middle and low income (as well as welfare recipients) yet, because of the lost millions in revenue per day and more job loss as well as lower income citizens losing state benefits. Hes really just trying to out due Obama on the stupidity scale! I won't even mention that moron Franken. Minnesota is once again the laughing stock in politics.

But not Megamillion or Powerball I only play my state I feel I will have a better chance of winning. When playing the others you got other states competing to win... no good and it's always up state.
I was playing for years, and year and never even won a free ticket as my friends would win thousands at a time. I've put that money to better use on things that actually make me happy now.

I have won (long time ago) when I was a shift supervisor and my crew was "shafted" with Christmas shiftwork. We set up a pool, everyone received $500 by Christmas.
maybe like 5 times a year at the most! but when I do play I let my brother choose the scratch off lottery he has an amazing luck! most of the time he wins like from $20 to $40!
From time to time...and I bet the person that wins every week doesn't say it's a waste of money...and it's fun wondering if you'll win and what you'll do with the cash. It's less of a waste than smoking, for example :P

Two kids College educated, on grandson age three.
We both work he's a long haul trucker and I'm a Med tex.
My Hubby loves talking about the thing we will do and buy if we won, but I know that most likely it will never happen, I let him do it once a week cause it makes him happy and anything that make my loving, soft bear happy is OK with me.
