And then there are all of the rivers and lakes - I cross a massive river on my way to school every day. My house also backs a canal. And then there's the rain... :)
Yes, the river is not that wide but exceptionally clean. The dam is in another community a few miles from me but does have a lot of activities with an exceptionally beautiful Golf Course and Club House along side.
Yes, there are some of those in the area. There is a club in that area with horses and owners that meet and have a trail (several miles) they ride on weekends. They camp out, cook all meals and have a good time from what I'm told.
I have had horses over the years but have gotten rid of all livestock, don't even raise beef cattle anymore. The camping sounds ok but much rather do that in a motor home with all conviences and out of the weather.
Its an island, thats all, simple. A small piece of land surrounded by water. You can walk to it over bridges, drive to it on bridges and through tunnels...

Plane, bridges tunnels, by ferry...it is not mars, you reach it they way you reach any place.
