Do You Live by the 'Golden Rule'?

Well I attempt to. I often fail, but I always try.

Have always tried to, because it is obviously the best way to be happy. Nobody is perfect and I have been less than stellar at times in my life. I know I wasn't the best person to be around when I was menopausal, but my husband lived.

And his point about using violence to solve violence WAS correct. Take it from someone who was trained to kill people for a living (US Army 12 years). There ARE better ways of handling things and if your philosophy is "hit back" soon you'll be "hitting back" before they hit you, and then it'll turn into just "hit".

So... what, you think the exact OPPOSITE philosophy is the only way to live then? Very well, don't come around me. I have the distinct feeling that you'll try to pick a fight and won't let up until I'm forced to ensure you can never fight again.

I do. Unfortunately if i know the person really well (usually my husband) then I don't treat them as well as i should because I'm comfortable enough to be mean, not all the time just when i get mad. If i don't know the person though I am usually always nice and respectful.

I put yes because I try, I really do try. People are just cold. It's really hard to be nice to people who I know are just going to be mean.

Hurt first? You get exactly what you expect. If you hurt them or treat them poorly or rudely, that's exactly how you'll be treated.

I've been conducting a personal experiment lately. I've been going out of my way to be pleasant to strangers--smiling at them, thanking clerks and other people I see working, for the service they provide. It's amazing the smiles and pleasantness I receive in return, not just from them, but from others as well. If someone is crabby, I go out of my way to be pleasant to them and not meet their foul mood with one of my own. Ironically, I've felt happier and more content. It's easier on a day when things are not going as well, to get out of that bad mood and into a good one.

I am certainly not always successful at it, though I don't believe I ever dish out anything I cannot or have not taken. I tend to mirror people. I treat them the same or better than they treat me. If they do not treat me well, I am not likely to treat them better-lol-more likely to give back to them what they are giving.
