I like to watch those foreign movies where Japanese guys yell something very meaningful in their own language that translates into something stupid in ours...it cracks me up.

Two of the best movies I've ever seen had subtitles, Apocalypto and Fearless with Jet Li.

Of course, it depends on the quality of the film. I especially like to watch and hear the
    original version.

Especially if the actors have heavy accents, but if I'm watching a DVD I usually turn the subtitles on.

Yes, if the movies were made by Charlie Chaplin, Federico Fellini, Ingmar Bergman, Akira Kurosawa, Francois Truffaut, Lina Wertmuller, Michelangelo Antonioni, Luchino Visconti, Bernardo Bertolucci, Roman Polanski, Roberto Rosellini, Jean Renior, Paul Verhoeven, or Werner Fassbinder.

artistic movies of substance have subtitles... not the shallow movies that come out in common theaters.

Especially on TV when the sound isn't always great. Whether in English (which I do understand) or another language (which I do not understand) subtitles are great!

The dialog is mixed so low sometimes over the music and FX, that some words are garbled. I have gone back to watch some the classics with subs and realized I missed so much when they were speed talking.

But NOT in the theater. If you miss something you really missed it. Of course I'm talking about other language films. But thats when I watch films with subtitles. When I don't know the language.

I find that it sometimes helps me understand the story, especially if there is a heavy accent involved. I don't want to have to keep playing with the volume button up to understand the conversations and then down for the action scenes.

If its not in ENGLISH, I'm not watching it. Even if the characters are supposed to be foreign in a certain scene; Make them speak English. I can use my imagination and pretend that they're talking in their own language. You're just making the move more frustrating for me when I have to read something I shouldn't have to.

Dubbing over the original dialogue can have horrible results.

There are a few anime's where I prefer the English dub, though.

Even when the movie is in English, I actually enjoy reading, also some parts of the movie are hard to understand so the subtitles help.
