The original all the way! Jack Lord and James MacArthur were the best! The new one made Dan-o's character into a clown in my opinion.

I was too young when the original was new but watch it on a 'retro' tv station now.

They are both good, but I am looking forward to the episode in the new series where they go on the trail of President Obama's Hawaii birth certificate! LOL !

I liked the old one at the time, but it fails today. Stuff like that is fun to watch for nostalgic reasons but I could never take it seriously or get into it again. I'm the same way with music. Out with the old, in with the new! http://blog.chron.com/tubular...

Definetly the new one. Jack Lord was too dry to compete with today's fast moving, action packed series. It rocks. I went back and watched some of the old-stuff and that's what it was....old stuff. Maybe for old people.

I grew up on the original and liked it a lot but the original had a bunch of stuffy old guys with no sense of humor and the new version has the pretty and sexy Grace Park in the cast. Nuff said.

I love the way to the two main guys play off each other. The one I really like is that very big guy with the shrimp truck. He's very funny.

I believe that the story line of the original version was better and it also showed more of the real beauty of the islands. Hawaii was and is a very important part of our lives. We went to Pearl Harbor when we were married and everything was fantastic. I guess it is that the original story was focused more on the islands than on the complete story line.

I LOVE both of them. The original one is on everyday at noon and I DVR it. The new one is great also. Both McGaretts are so darned gorgeous...each in their own way. I was a little leery about a female Kono but it's worked out well for me. Both are great shows.

I really like the new one as well, but McGarrett (Lord) prancing around Hawaii with his giant comb over, squealing the tires on that big boat of a Merc for no apparent reason, wearing a peach colored shirt with matching scarf with his big white straw hat with shark toothed band how could anyone possibly live up to that????LOL

Although I REALLY like the new one, the original is CLASSIC!

Besides that, the shows still stand up today... we watch one episode for lunch everyday!

I just got Season 12 to finish the collection!

Since my family lived in Honolulu for a short time during the 70's, there is also a personal connection (even went to the set one time - don't remember though, too young).

I read somewhere Lord came out of the series being quite a land barron in Hawaii but was not especially a happy or nice guy to deal with kind of a Howard Hughes reclusive sort.

He was a recluse after H50. He was a very nice man and very private.

He donated his entire estate to the State of Hawaii in his will.

He was a private person maybe because he was a REAL "Artist". He had paintings in the Museum of Modern Art in NYC when he was in his early 20's.

Amazing and complex person. A true gentleman.

Well there you go two entirely different takes on the same guy guess that's the way with most people though how they really are depends on who you ask. I'd say viewing from afar and in retrospect both Lord and the state of Hawaii both benefited quite well from the mutual association they shared from the series.
