Yes, I like snakes. The VAST majority of snakes are harmless to humans, and shy. It is very sad, that so many people have unreasonable fear or hatred of them.
It is also sad, that the "exotic animal trade", is bringing non-native reptiles into this country, and they get away, or are released, and do great harm.
snakes are part of our world..they roles are multi-faceted..They control the rodent and other dangerous insects, they venom are now used in medical breakthough,Plus they are beautiful creatures,Respect their existence!
I LOVE THEM!!!!!! I am a herpetologist. Peoples views on them has changed somewhat .............. but a lot of people still hate them. Great question. Thank you for asking it.
As a child I would catch them and carry them in my pocket.I once caught a baby rattlesnake but did not handle it,I used a jar to catch it,and later let it go.
lol i really dont do boa's .. there been some scary stories in the news about giant house snakes eatting babies and small dogs.. lol there just not for me..
Yep! Crimson is awesome!Probably one of neatest pets I've ever had. She has definitly broke the 3 foot barrier as of late. About a year & a half old now.
Looks more or less exactly like this one.
Haven't really needed to as far as I can tell. She sheds a fully intact skin every time. Are there other benifits to soaking her that I'm not aware of? I do have a tub for her. one of those big rubbermaid totes, that's what I feed her in. So I could if if that is something she would like.
I'l admit, I've only had her since October. So I am definitly in working progress mode. As a guy who has clearly had a snake much longer than I have, any tips you'd like to share to ensure my snakes happiness would be greatly appreciated.
(6 feet?! How old is she?)
They take in water through their cloaca, so it helps keep them hydrated, some of them love to soak ,some hate it.Since yours does full sheds you have the humidity right so thats not an issue : ) .She is three years old,and going through another growing spurt! The largest one i have ever seen is at the zoo i volunteer at ,SHE is 12 ........yes 12!! feet long and about 120 pounds. I think someone power fed her when she was younger. She is as big around as a large coffee can ,and longer (for now) than our burmese python. Mine looks like this.
Yeah, I think Crimson is on the "hate it" side. Or atleast, for as long as I've had her. I've never seen her actually in her water bowl. Watched her drink from it, but never seen her get in. My woman says its rediculous how much I worry about that snake. But the poor thing has been through a lot already. Like I said, its been a working progress. Well one of the lessons I learned all too late was that a snake will decide to search for escape routes. Well she found one, but soon decided it was too cold out of it for her liking. So she nested her way into my laundry pile & ended up being put through the wash. Scared the hell out of my girlfriend when she went to switch loads. Actually the snake was originally her birthday present. But that little incident kind of turned her off to wanting to touch her for quite some time. So in the mean time I took her under my wing & became her buddy. Just had her out a half hour ago. She just shed like 4 days ago, so he has that beautiful holographic shine to her right now.
INTO THE WASHING MACHINE!! oh my god. Please tell me she didnt go through the spin cycle.Yes .........our bull snake escaped once, he was gone for about 3 weeks ,we were sure he was dead. I opened the closet one day,and there he was! He got a big drink of water and went to sleep. My wife is into the lizards more than the snakes .............but she loves snakes, and still says the same thing as YOUR lady (you worry SO MUCH about your snakes). The bull snake just shed last night. I got all ours as neonates ,so they are like my "kids".

she looks like a sweetheart, from her picture :)
