you'd do better spinning the oil filter off your car and eating it. Beef liver sold in the grocery store is a bag of toxins; I'm not gonna suck on that....
there's a reason you didn't like it as a kid (or now, for that matter). Liver to an animal is what a oil filter is to a car. It traps impurities and toxins and then sends that mess out the digestive system. It's filthy and meant to be for the overall health of the larger organizism of the whole animal. It's beyond gross. It's dirtier than the feces the body is able to handle in its digestive system. It handles the substances even the digestive system rejects.
I confess; I did not find that biological fact, but my view of eating chicken has still taken a turn.... actually, I'm pretty close to being a vegetarian.... not for moral reasons. For health reasons, I left priortizing eating meat based fuels (protein via meat and fats) for getting my fuel from micronutrients - vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals found in fruits and vegetables. Just a choice, not a moral judgement. I still have a piece of meat once in a great while.
After about 3 months, I really don't miss meat that much. I first encountered the positive affects of a non-meat lifestyle when my mother had 13 bouts of cancer. She could usually sense it before she went to the doctor's office because protein used to give a sensation like menopausal hot flashes. Her last trip to the doctors, and then to the hospital was a massive hot flash after a 4th of july picnic. She knew right then, she would never come home again. But when she avoided meat, her quality of life improved everytime...
Before it hit me that the liver filters all the toxins out of your blood...I LOVED liver. It was a treat when my mom made it with bacon and lots of onions. I've not eaten it in decades because of the function of the liver...and won't. But have at it if you like it ;) It was good!
I've never tried liver but I can't get by what it is. I don't think I could eat internal organs. My stomach churns just thinking about it. But then, I'm not a big meat eater anyway.
My sister used to pretend she was going to puke every time we had it for dinner! Then my Mother would give her an Obama speech about how great it was for her! I can still remember laughing my butt off at her over the whole thing!
