Been close enough a couple of times to have my hair stand up and was once knocked down by it. I had a drill sergeant who was struck by it, he live but it changed his voice.
If the wind isn't blowing too hard, I like to sit on my front porch and watch thunderstorms. We seem to get a lot more of them here in Tennessee than I ever got in Northern Ohio. My house is surrounded on all four sides by valleys and the thunder echoes for a very long time.
