Do you know how to drive a stick...?

fer_reals 2011/08/21 23:36:17
Bet Roy and Jessica wish they had learned how to...

Roy and Jessica Fritts married while both were incarcerated. She was a bank robber and he was an attempted murderer.

They headed for Nevada, from Oregon-after R. Fritts shot a 54 yo man leaving him on the side of the road. The Fritts stole his van and went to Wyoming...(I never said they were smart)

They fled from Wyoming into Utah where the van was disabled by spike strips and then they were on foot.

They eventually found an old man in his driveway and hijacked his
vehicle, but were unable to get very far. The car had
a manual transmission and neither of the Fritts knew how to drive a
stick-shift.

They were arrested on site, and I now have two new people in the dumbass awards.

I learned on a stick shift. Took me a long time to stop clutching after I got my first automatic. I still can't steer with my right hand... it just feels weird.

learned stick shift clutching automatic steer hand feels weird clutch pedal

In the 10 years that i've been driving, I have never driven an automatic. I started learning how to drive a stick shift when I was 13 or so, it always came very naturally to me. Now don't get me wrong, I stalled my fair share of times. It was always really easy to understand for me. I've found several benefits to driving a stick such as driving in the snow, not getting my car stolen, WAY better gas mileage than automatics, and bejng able to control my speed a lot better. Plus it's really fun. I think it is essential for every driver to know how to drive a stick. Shoot, they might even like it ;)

I'm a bit rusty at it, but I'm alright once I get the gas/clutch ratio down for that particular vehicle.

Yes, My dad taught me how to drive stick on a 1962 Chevy Impala with a three on a tree. If you can drive stick, you can drive anything up to a semi with no additional training.

First car I ever drove was a 48-Ford flathead V8 with 3-on the tree stick, and at least since 1989 one of our vehicles has been a 3-spd. 4-spd or now a 5-spd stick

You betcha. 16 years ago when I started at the job I have today the young men were very impressed with the fact that an old lady could drive a stick. I told them " it's all we had to learn on".
