Depended on why my baby was crying. If I put him to bed and he cried because he was tired and didn't want to be put down. I usually let them cry, it never lasted more than a minute or two before they fell asleep.

Any other time I picked them up and held them

Who says you shouldn't hold a crying baby? Your instincts say pick it up, don't let someone tell you that you are wrong.

A baby cries for a reason.. it is only sensible to try and see why it is crying....

    1. Hunger
    2. A dirty diaper
    3. Needs sleep
    4. Wants to be held
    5. Tummy troubles (gas, colic, and more)
    6. Needs to burp
    7. Too cold or too hot
    8. Something small
    9. Teething
    10. Wants less stimulation
    11. Wants more stimulation
    12. Not feeling well

I always picked up my nieces and nephews. At least for a few minutes to calm them. They range in age from 3-16 now, but if the younger ones cry I still hug them. It seems to work most of the time. Good luck with teething. :^D

I check to see if the munchkin needs to be changed or fed, otherwise if they're just being fussy, not hysterical, I'll leave them be for a few minutes at least

I know you are not supposed to hold a crying baby, but I just cannot help myself, the compulsion is too strong for me to ignore.

Mine are 15 and 19. I don't regret picking them up and soothing them every time they cried.

Sometimes holding the baby does not stop it from crying.

I held..right away...somehow, all 3 quieted down and then, went back to sleep. I think that letting them cry starts a vicious cycle, and it takes longer to calm them.

It depends on why the baby is crying. Crying is the only way a baby has to communicate and each cry is different.

I will always pick up a crying baby and walk with them or rock them while I hum, to calm them down.
I feel it makes them feel secure and loved.

I meant to click I hold a crying baby

Never had one of my own, but all my friends have kids. I can't just let a baby cry.
It's not something they need to learn-- they just need some attention, food, comfort, a new diaper, etc. I don't think it hurts to give it to them.

When babysitting my neices and nephews I always picked them up, my sister law would tell me I'm spoiling but I can't stand to just let them cry. I'll be a father early next year for the first time and I know I'll hold. I don' t buy the argument that a month old baby wiil understand cry and I'll be held,

Ahh.,.. congratulations! I think you'll do fine, picking your baby up-- a lot of adults seem pretty insecure these days; maybe this is where it all begins. :O)

It's a personal choice,I've heard some people say If you hold them every time they cry that you are spoiling them and other people who feel the opposite,I think people should do witch ever makes them comfortable.

I let the kid cry for a bit, let them calm down on their own if I can stand it long enough. I don't really like babies so I try not to get stuck in this position.

You don't like babies? Wow, that's about as lame as a person can get.
