I don't have kids... but I find it very cool and eye opening to those that do have a very open relationship with their family. And I think it makes them closer as family and helps in most ways :) ...

Every year my Sons and I go on a weekend motorcycle ride to get away and reconnect. Since they've gotten married or have jobs that don't allow them to come around as often, this is the best way to get together at the same time.

depending on your idea of "open"? Of course they talk to us about everything and we are open about stuff to them, my kids have a good BS detector
