I also do not trust the maid service because of thefts when I first moved into the building I am in - and staff had the only access and keys.
I have had a maid in the past and she lived with me in my home. She was absolutely awesome and she was very well paid and I respected her for all her work - even though she never really had to do much.
She was a great cook and a really nice person and when she left, she still remained friends and offered to take me to Jamaica on her expense.
She never really had much to do, but she was there in the event that there ever was a need. Most of the time she just sat at home and did her own thing and maybe cooked once a week just because she wanted to do something.

I so wish I did and at least in my area they are surprisingly affordable. I'm just not trusting enough to give someone the key to my house. Also with my erratic schedule, I don't want them coming while I'm sleeping.
